We all know the route to becoming a millionaire is behind the wheel of a tractor trailer. It has to be true, because we see here every day, someone wants to be a driver because they heard you could make serious cash driving a truck.

 

I've met several and they all were weighted down with gold bling.
They all had blue/green stains on their neck and fingers and wrists.
I wondered about that and researched it.

Therein lies the rub..
When I started long ago it was because I loved driving, period.
Thought I was good at it so I b.s.'ed my way in after running a couple trips w a buddy.
The trucks, the comroderie and professionalism was inspiring.
I got a job without even having a chauffeur's license.

I watched, asked questions at the truck stops and learned stuff.
After a couple months went to take my test and failed. Second time and I was golden.

Made a good living all these years and will retire next year without a motor vehicle accident ever.
Seen alot of changes but none bigger than people getting into trucking that shouldn't.

 

The people drawn to trucking because of money never last.

 

No employer gives a carp if you dragged a trailer once or twice, off the books, in the last 10 years. Turn off Instagram and TikTok. Both will convince you the only thing necessary for success is a sassy attitude. If that was true you would already be a millionaire truck driver. If you want big money or nothing, focus on the Permian Basin in Texas or Williston, ND.

 

Companies will offer lots of things. "Hey, I think that stripper just winked at me."

Ok Karen. Do you need the number for HR? The one thing trucking will not tolerate is unapproved humor. I suspect once HR finds out the joke was used without a permit you can have him thrown in jail. Maybe after he's driven all day he can track down suspects in the crimes against supermodels. I mean 10 hours is a lot of time every day.
