What about Tanker, that is not mentioned. I am not making any decisions about which direction to take my driving career until I can actually make such a decision. But, I am curious and seem to be drawn toward HazMat, Tanker, long haul stuff. I would think pay for that would be decent and chances are if I keep at it long enough, I might find a decent company to work for with decent treatment, decent pay and decent loads. Just thinking here. But, it seems possible.

Anyway, hazmat tanker trucks? decent pay? (yes I understand the higher risk).

tanker stuff...not a friggin clue, sorry. i would imagine they make more than dry van. i never considered it as an option because of they (perhaps mostly imagined) danger of a constantly shifting load. but thats not from a whit of experience, just my sense of what it would be. honestly i have zero experience with flatbed as well. and of course i have no experience as "ice road" or iraq. but i did some research on each as a whim sorta thing. but tanker never interested me, so zero research on that one. sorry again. im sure theres lots of info out there for the properly motivated. theres a section in this forum, if im not mistaken. ask the guys who do it day in day out.

In 2008 I was really wanting out of here and looked at everything. The best initial paying driving job I found was with a tv production company that primarily covered sporting events. There was no cpm or hourly rate - it started at a flat $285 per day worked as an apprentice. I went in and interviewed twice and got offered the job but turned it down in the end because of the time away from home and the fact I hate flying.

Well I just got started driving in line haul. I am going to be a combo driver though, so I get paid to work on the docks for a couple hours and then I run a load. I get paid by the load though so its a little different.

    $20/hour for 6 hours on the docks - $120
Then if I run a 4 hour load that pays $120...

that's $240 for a 10 hour day. I have the option to work the docks more for more money, and apparently there is optional weekend work for extra as well.

I'd say I got pretty lucky landing this spot for my first driving job.
