No amount of money is worth having to go through that BS. Tax free or not!

I also applied to KBR back in 2003 I think it was and actually got accepted but an old problem from my Military days stopped the application just after she told me I would be a convoy commander, whatever that is/was! I know but I really could use that money!

Oh the tax free was the main reason along with that tax free $100,000 until several KBR guys that had just returned told me that yes the tax free hundred thou was nice but KBR who held the contract for feeding and had the portable shower trailers and other things including the leases on American only motels made that large paycheck not worth the time or effort needed over there!

1 meal could cost you $50 just to look at the buffet or menu! The "rooms" went for up to and higher @ $150+ a night and these were the "barracks for KBR drivers and other workers!

I'm glad that I didn't go as the bring home pay wasn't worth the tax free status because you could burn through those costs just from eating a meal every day not to mention 2 others if you do eat 3 squares a day! If you are still thinking of it then read the contract to find those "hidden" costs!

You can make SO close to that in ND I don't see the point in jumping through the hoops it must take to even get hired on over there. I can see doing it back in 03 for Patriotic as well as financial gain. --But with the draw down in full swing what exactly are the civilian contractors even doing over there nowadays?

In ND or TX if a guy finds the work "isn't for me" he can walk to the hwy and stick his thumb out... He'll be home in a few days. I'd hate to see the bus they stick you on over there when you tell them you want to go home.

I want to know where you plan to put in your application at. I looked under govt jobs over seas and all I find is scammers. Please give me names of these companies that are ready to hire you and ship you over there.

Halliburton, and KBR both are hiring last I knew of. I have talked to guys who did it, and for the most part all say it wasn't worth it for the lack of security.

Thanks everyone for the posts. I'm taking to heart what everyone is saying.

Being as I would be completely debt-free when I got back, I was planning to get a local driving job that maybe didn't pay so well until I could land a decent paying job and just take it much easier.

There's the page with all the logistics jobs available through DynCorp in Afghanistan.

Here's a current posting on Halliburton's website for a "Heavy Truck Driver"
    https://erecruiting.halliburton.job...root=\SAP\PUBLIC\BC\UR\nw5\themes\Halliburton

Also, keep an eye on KBR. I didn't see any current opening for truck drivers but I know that they are one of the larger contracters over there along with Halliburton.

Just wanted to Say Thanks for the insight on those jobs. I've always heard of them but never seen any actual openings. I'm going to play it safe and stay here in the states. I'm going to look at transportation jobs in North Dakota I hear the oil companies pay pretty good if you work your ace off. The home time sounds good with them. But everything I've been told has been 2nd hand so I will have to do some checking.:biggrin_2554:
