US Navy's new floating base gets a workout in Gulf

A new, key addition to American-led naval efforts to ensure Mideast oil keeps flowing has emerged as an unusual mix of a ship combining decades' worth of wear and tear with state-of-the-art technology and a largely civilian crew.

Sealift Command will have 4 of these ships, crewed by civilian Merchant Seamen. They will carry Special Ops. military people(minesweeping, SEAL Teams, picture above is Navy minesweeping helo) . Sealift command has approximately 110 other ships that usually supply ships(food, ammo, fuel, supplies misc.) They also crew the hospital ships the military uses during wars. My plan was to be on a Sealift Command ship out of Singapore. Most are ported in USA on both Pacific & Atlantic coasts. I changed my Singapore plans and now just bumming around the Orient for awhile with the little wife watching me with the eagle eye; smart woman!

Never got a response, really. I only received one email from them stating that one position had been eliminated. Other than that...nothing.

I don't know what those guys make doing the ice roads. Never researched it or cared to. And as far as being armed, you're not allowed. Only security and the military can be armed while abroad. You have to have the proper training and clearance to carry any weapon when you're a contractor.
