Highway Etiquette Question

No, it isn’t that you’re messing up our flow, but I personally don’t like to move over unless I can tell I have at least a truck length between us because of all the lowlifes in the world who will floor it as soon as they see a truck put on a turn signal. But if you flash your lights I’ll know for certain you’re paying attention.

With regards to flashing your lights, don’t flash your high beams at night. That won’t be appreciated. If you can, turn them off and then back on.

I can say, as a truck driver with 3 million mi, I've seen it all, as they say. Remember, there's lots of traffic on our highways. So in a busy pattern, you have lots of drivers with different driving habits. So the guy in your left mirror isn't on the same page necessarily as the guy on your right side. Trying to co-ordinate everyone isn't easy. Observe, anticipate, and be willing to "give in". Look at the Indy 500, how many vehicles doing 160 MPH and inches from the other vehicles going around the track. And not hitting each other. (mostly)

 

That's my whole point.....A group of drivers, all on the same page. You couldn't get 30 people off the street and have them race around a track at 150MPH .....they would be crashing with-in 1/2 mi ! !
