I was targeted for a hijacking once in NYC, back in about 1989 or 1990. I was picking up a load at Lifschultz Fast Freight, underneath the West Side Highway. It was a full trailerload of winter coats, going to Dayton's in Minneapolis. My doors were sealed with 2 heavy bolt seals, 2 heavy-duty padlocks (mine), and no fewer than 5 straps between the door rods, waaaay up by the hooks on the top. It was getting dark as I left. Traffic was heavy on 10th ave, and later on Amsterdam, so I may have been followed, but didn't realize it. As I progressed up through Harlem, traffic got a bit slower. One car got in front of me and slowed me down just enough to make a turning light that I could not make.

As I sat at the light, I noticed a 'lady of the evening' standing at the light post; seemed a bit early for her.....she opened her fake fur coat, and she was wearing...nothing at all!. "Hmm", I thought, "ladies like that aren't likely to give away THAT much in their advertising", and sure enough, I saw 3 guys with hammers and bolt cutters running towards my back door...

I blew my air horn, ran the red, and drove faster down Amsterdam that was probably recommended to do in a loaded semi. Managed to catch the green light at the intersection I needed to turn left at to get onto the GWB; saw one guy fall off the trailer as I made that turn (once again, taken at a rather inadvisable velocity..), and I booked it all the way past Fort Lee. As I was crossing the bridge, I heard a CB call; "Hey, JB! You got a guy hanging onto the back of your trailer"! I headed straight to I-80, and didn't stop until the Delaware Water Gap, and even then it was only to pay a toll. Pulled into a truckstop somewhere further into PA, and he wasn't on the back by then.

I assume that, if he was still holding onto the back of my doors when I paid the toll in Phillipsburg, PA, he probably got off there. Or maybe he fell off somewhere along the way. Didn't get any calls about him riding my ICC bumper all across NJ, so perhaps he fell off around Teaneck? Don't know, and don't really care...

No but I used to pick up drugs from Pfizer a lot. They sealed the trailer with more locks than Fort Knox and made you sign a form saying you wouldn’t stop for 200 miles once you left their facility for any reason. And they’d track you and watch you like a hawk. I once found out how serious they were when I had to relieve my self and within a minute of being stopped my phone was ringing

Our neighbor had a hired farm hand that came from somewhere in eastern Europe. He had some interesting stories of guys with guns, road blocks and truck break ins at the truck stops. His boss said if you see bandits on the road, get in the middle of the road, put your foot on the floor, duck and don't stop for anything.

    Be careful at Home Depot

Over the last month I became a victim of a clever scam
while out shopping. Simply going out to get supplies has turned
out to be quite traumatic. Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't
    happen to you.
    Here's how the scam works:

    Two seriously good-looking 18 or 19-year-old girls
    come over to your car
as you are packing your shopping into the trunk. They
both start wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex, with their
breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T-shirts. It is impossible
    not to
    look.

When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say
    "No" and instead ask
you for a ride to another Home Depot. You agree and
they get in the back seat. On the way, they start having sex with each
    other.
Then one of them climbs over into the front seat and
performs oral sex on you, while the other one steals your wallet.

I had my wallet stolen October 4th, 9th, 10th, twice
on the 15th, 17th, 20th, 28th, three times just yesterday, and very
likely again this upcoming weekend as soon as I can buy some more
    wallets.

    Again - beware!!

Be wary of people following you.

it has happened to me many times.

After loading, that took quite awhile, I headed out to the delivery. When I pulled out of the load yard, a pickup truck pulled out from the curb. Didn’t really think much of it as it seemed we both were headed for the highway. Well then it started to get a bit crazy. This truck was right on my back side, just a little too close for me. Every time I changed lanes, took a ramp to a different road, no matter what, that truck was right behind me. Started to get a little nervous about it. It was a fairly high dollar load. Decided to stop at a rest area coming up and call the company. Sure enough, the truck followed me in. Now I am wondering what to do, stop, keep rolling. Decided to stop, call the company and do a load check, while putting an eye on this truck. While I was doing that, the driver gets out and walks over towards me. Of course my mind is running all sorts of things. While talking to dispatch, they asked all sorts of questions. Turns out it was my chaser for the oversized load.

I've heard of one or two news stories about a truck driver being hijacked in 28 years. If a driver doesn't go looking to buy or use drugs, buy or sell stolen items, or fight there is very little crime waiting for him.
