22 ppl started class with us at trans am on 2/8 we lost 2 by 2/10 after 3 weeks on the road 4 more were gone 10 days after we got our trucks 3 more were gone. now i dont know swhy they all left but that shows how quick they disappear. i am not saying they were fired i know both women that left one because her moyjer got sick another because she realized it wasnt for her. one guy failed the piss test for undisclosed prescription pills Xanax percocet vucodin all off limits in the trucj even as prescribed, So the turnover rate is also weeding out people for all kinds of things inclufing those who wanna be home more can't really drive etc I don't know where the 85 % fihure comes from ppl that start class or ppl after they get in trucks but yes the turnover rate in all starter companies is high some ppl just put thier time in get experience and move on

I just talked to a TransAm driver yesterday. He went company out of school and wasn't getting miles. So he signed a lease 3 months ago. With the lease, he has to run 1500 miles each week before he starts getting paid. Says he's getting 2500 miles per week now. The upside is that he has a 2013 KW T700.
My guess is that he'll probably be working for free starting around October - November if he doesn't get fed up before then.

I'm just looking to pay my dues, after 6 months or a year I'll look at other options depending on how things are going.
-
I guess that's a good way to look at it. I personally can't afford to work for what some of these companies are offering.
-
I don't want to, but the fact is there are limited options for drivers with no experience.
-
I'm assuming you have your CDL.
If you can do flatbed, talk to McElroy. Pay is 0.40 / mile, home every weekend or they pay you an extra $150. Miles are 1500-2000, so your net would probably be the same or better than the big OTR companies.
EPES will hire you if you attended one of the schools on their approved list. I've heard that they're a good company to start out with.
Prime has a very good pay package for new company drivers - but once again don't go the lease route unless you're 100% sure of what you're doing.Jackofalltrades1977 Thanks this. -
I do have my CDL with all endorsements, but flatbed isn't even an option for me unfortunately. Maverick and McElroy were my top two until I saw the physical requirements.
I'll look into EPES, though I don't think my school was approved despite being accredited and being 160 hours long.
I've seen and heard too much bad stuff about Prime.
Leasing isn't for me right now. I may consider it down the road but I'm just trying to get my feet wet and learn the ins and outs of the trucking business before I take on something like that.
Thanks for the info though. -
My 17 year old makes that at Burger King.
Keep looking or re-think your career choice.nicholas_jordan and bbechtel16 Thank this. -
Again, I'm looking for good OTR experience and then will look for greener pastures. Experience often opens a lot of doors, that's what I'm looking to acheive right now. It will be hard to make less than what I've brought in and survived on with unemployment. We don't require much money right now and we have a plan on how to move forward.
My goal is to go OTR to learn the ropes for 6 months to a year while my wife finishes her RN degree. Once I feel ready to move on I'll look LTL or Local. I have several LTL companies right here around me as well as a local Petro company that wants me to apply when I have a year in.
If I could find an OTR oppportunity that meets my physical needs and pays more then I'd be interested. But I'm set to be in Rockwall, TX in 4 days and once I start with Trans Am I won't be leaving for atleast 6 months.
