If you want to be a local driver its VERY POSSIBLE to get in without any experience. I never have driven OTR in my life. When I got my CDL i worked for Con-way freight. I interviewed for UPSF with only 3 months exp and they were willing to hire me and bend the 1 year rule. I didnt get hired due to parking tickets(yes UPS wont hire you if you have them within a year) I applied to Estes that requires two year and the terminal manager said he would see what he could do. YRC ended u hiring me, and after a few months Estes did call me back but i already started with YRC and enjoy it there. If you got a ABF terminal by you they send you to a school but are tied up or 2 years. they have an extremely low turnover from what Ive heard, but same with YRC unless you completely screw up.

    8 hours a day x 7 days a week = 56

    600/56 = 10.71
    800/56 = 14.28

does burger king really pay that much? :)

I drove for them. Dont hate them, per se, but will never go back. To much micromanagement and frankly, I hated being treated like a child. JMHO

Well you won't pay your dues that quick in this industry.I've been driving for 11 years and am just now at the point where I can go to just about any company. If you want a good paying career and not a job it takes years to get that respect and even then its hard if you don't just want to be a number. Find a good fit for you and your family and the rest will fall into place. Don't just spend 6 months to a year somewhere and move on because once you start hopping around its hard to find the really good places to drive for. The high paying companies want to see stability in your work efforts.

Hey now! I'm still on here, and I'm doin just fine(I jump on here every time I'm collecting layover pay). Sure, the pay might not be that great, BUT, the trucks are nice, and you'll save a fair amount of money when you consider the fridge and inverter(aka B.Y.O.Microwave).

honestly prime cannot absolutley be ANY worse then transam, id say they are running circles around transam to be honest. if you can put up with transam then there isnt anything at prime you wont be able to not handle.. and you get 0.34-0.36cpm reefer.

Thanks for the input. I know 6 months isn't really long enough to "pay my dues" per se, but I have a couple of local opportunities that are just looking for 6 months experience OTR to get a job. I want to go OTR as well as to learn the ropes and log some good miles before taking my next step.

I leave for orientation at 12:47 pm tomorrow, pretty excited to start this chapter in my life.
