I can't imagine making less than what I bring in on unemployment right now, so about anything is a step in the right direction. We have meager needs and will get by while I build a resume. Having insurance again is a HUGE deal for us as my wife needs surgery in the near future.

i hear yea, from my point of view im not looking to take too big of a step back and at the same time be treated like a #### and being left to rot and not make money. i just wanna run and gun and make some hard cash and fun while doing it ..... -
the whole lease thing is stressing me out, as i was set on tramsam. the owner of the company is coming to talk to our cdl school tomorrow and ima ask him about it...
-
Let me know what he says, for the sake of curiosity.
I'm not leasing, don't care what kind of tricks they have up their sleeve. -
he awnsered the way a owner should, if a truck is not available upon completion and will be some time before one is, you will be sent home and receive 50$ a day untill your put in a truck. one of the things i do like is that once you receive your letter in the mail, your hired according to him, where other companies state that your not hired untill...

Sounds like a blast.

Jack: I'm wondering what was so difficult about the Schneider physical test? They are among my top 3 first choice (conway and roehl are the others). However, I do have physical limitations due to a broken knee cap/ reconstructive surgery.
It has been almost 1 year and my knee and quad muscle isn't quite ready yet for the clutch, but hopefully in a few months it will be.
Anyhow, I am impatient so was thinking about going to an automatic trans. co. I called Trans-Am today. The recruiter was nice, I liked everything she was promissing until she got to the pay scale. .30/mile and ONLY 1 c. raise after 1 yr!!! That's the lowest pay I've seen around. However, she did say the avg is 2800 to 3000 m/week and said it was consistent.
I know quite a few local drivers who started local w/ no exp. They drive for Old Dominion (ODFL), Conway, and ABF. However, they started a few years ago, maybe these co's are a little tougher on their exp. requirements now.
Goodluck w/ TAm orientation! Keep us posted. -
Schneider actually has a video of the pre screen somewhere under the orientation portion. I failed the step test because I couldn't do a single step, however I was able to get in and out of a truck everyday at school, so whatever.

Thanks Jack. I just viewed it. I guess I'll be spending the next few months at the gym.
I see on the step test, you need to always lead w/ your left leg, so hard to get your brain to make your body move that way. Too bad they didn't give you a 2nd chance.
Goodluck at Trans-Am! -
I just finished my 3 weeks on the road with Trans Am. Overall I learned how to do the job pretty well. The next few months I will get better. The week at Rockwall testing out is next, and I am sure that they will push the lease hard. I am going to stand my ground and be a company driver. They do have pretty good equipment and I am happy thus far. I am like most new drivers ,trying to get experience so I can move on to something closer to home and home more often.
