    Hello all,

If you were hiring a driver to drive 400 miles a night starting time 10pm... and usual finish at about 7-8am what would you consider a decent wage? Good equipment, drop n hook, maybe some waiting time of up to two hours... I need advice in a hurry...

Typical requirments... no felonies, dui in the past 5 years... etc. etc.

    Also need Haz-mat.

    Thanks....

    >50cpm then $20 hr for waiting...would equal about 1200 a week if the waiting time was maxed at 2 hrs a night....I would work for that type of wage. what about ins. and vacation time ? Any offered up?

Just give Him 200 a day that will make him happy enough with the benifits as well if you don't like that then hire a brand new driver at 25 cents a mile

first off there will always be a dumb a-- trying to beat the price down for you.... Think !!!!!!! if your the prospective employee what would you want, that is reasonable and fair to both you the driver and the employer...... you want to keep good dependable help around you gotta treat them decent and pay them good..... long term thinking and action usally always wins out in the end.... you might pay alittle more but you will gain in cost savings later and have your equipment treated good and kept in top notch condition... having to have a hazmat is worth the extra wages too....

its not suprising truck driver wages are in the toilet, as there are so many morons who are willing to work for less than minumum wage.... and morons are less than a dime a dozen......

tony the truckerdude has it pretty well right......

area of the country is a factor. I live near Peoria, IL. Here, it would be tough to find a local job, home every day, off weekends like you describe paying over $700/wk. However, if you go up to Chicago it would be a $1400+ job. Also, how many drop and hooks ? Are you talking a 200 mile turn around, or several small runs ?
