This is a little sarcastic... right? I mean correct?

Ok I think you are mixing a few things up here... everyone pays taxes... and we dont ask our employer what will I make after taxes because we all pay different rates...

not sure where you came up with 12 hours a day... some days will be around 8 hours others around 10....

Not being sarcastic at all just realistic, a 1099 is a screw job for a driver plain and simple.

I was not responding to you but to the other poster, but the facts of trucking is you will not be able to pinpoint the time for the run so 12 hours is a standard time for a 400 mile run with the time of delivery and driving time if you are not drop and hook.

I'm just basing it on wages in my area for similar jobs. I have a friend who is a MASTER CHEMIST who couldn't find a job paying over 35k for the first two years out of graduate school. I just think it's bad business to start a guy at 50k a year on a home every day and weekends off job. That's the problem with the world today, everybody wants it all right away. I think it's better to start them at a comparable wage to the average in your area, and if they do a good job, give them the occasional raise. He'll get to 50k or more, but he's got to earn it.

I would say for a 400 mile run, you could pay by the hour instead of mileage. You could base the hourly rate on the drivers experience and what the average rate for the area is. Here in TX the average is between 15-18+. It would be higher if your near a larger metropolitan area. I would say for the benefits, what does your company put in to it? I pay almost 90$ a week out of my check for family med but I have between me, my wife, and my son, a 5000$ deductable that has to be meet first. No co-pays either. Just my thoughts and .02.

you pay $1200 to $1400 a week for a job where your home every nite with weekends off, your being more than fair. You will find a good driver , for that. Thats basically a day cab job, so its not like a hand is gonna be out on the otr circuit. Expenses to the driver are a minimum lunch and coffee and smokes if he desires.... I would be happy with that . Depending on the cost of living in your locale..... If you figure a 40 hour week thats $30 to $35/ hr..... Thats good pay for a daily run and drop and hook at that....

Depending on how much the loads paid and with the hours you are needing drivers: My thought is $0.55/mile x 2,000/week=$1100 driver wage. $1100-$250/taxes= $850 to the driver after taxes. $850-$53/week insurance= $797 take home per week for a driver that is willing to run Nightly runs of 8-10 hours. For a wage of this you could keep a driver. Will not be the best driver out there but I would bet you will find a good driver with an offer like this with hometime. The problem would be when a better opportunity comes up you know the driver will move ship on you.
