    Depending on your age and tax situation, Per Diem can be beneficial to you. Each person should have their tax advisor look at it based on their situation.

    Per Diem that is forced on a driver is ludicrous. No company should be able to force something on a driver that has an effect on his tax liability. If it is optional then that is great.

    Say you are looking for a house and a mortgage, being on per diem your official income will be much lower than if you could opt out. This in turn will directly affect your ability to buy the house that you wish to purchase based on that lower income. You know you make and bring home more but the bank doesn't care. Forced per diem sucks.
