Since you man has a CDL he should get a copy of his PSP report. I think it's $10 online and immediately available.
    Pre-Employment Screening Program

The insurance companies can see AT LEAST the MVR and the PSP, plus they have access to an industry database. Who knows what other info they can find.

DUI knocked down to reckless driving.
    Hmmmm...
    0+0=0.
I don't see where that did him any favors outside of avoiding jail time.

DUI is a table 1 offense in 383.51 with a one-year suspension of the CDL and a 2nd conviction is for LIFE! The regs allow for reinstatement after 10 years if the person has gone through a rehabilitation program. Reckless is 60 days per table 2.

This is what is supposed to happen once those convictions hit the CDLIS.

In this case, the cases being reduced to reckless helped. It is clear this person has a serious drinking problem. I know several people that have done that one-year suspension of their CDL after a DUI.

    I
That's good info to know. I was thinking in the sense of ole boy getting hired on somewhere. Both of which are killers when it comes to a trucking gig.

He was on his motorcycle, not in a truck.

He has a CDL. so he could have been issued a level 3, and he's lucky he didn't.

It was failure to exercise due care, not reckless driving. It's still a serious traffic offense, but not a misdemeanor - at least in Georgia. I find it very curious though. If he didn't get convicted of a misdemeanor then why is he on probation? Possibly some sort of deferred adjudication arrangement? But then how two convictions for the lesser offense? Had to be a good lawyer.

With that logic, if he doesn't have a CDL he can't a level 1 even in a CMV, right?

    You are joking, right?

I don't think you fully understand what a CDL is. When someone holding a CDL is driving a Non-Commericial Vehicle they are not subject to the Federal DOT rules that require inspection reports. In fact, a lot of CDL holders I know have self-certified intrastate and still have a CDL with no medical card. Their actions while driving can affect the CDL in the case of violations found in 383.51, but that is all. This is also why a CDL holder with a suspended CDL because of 383.51 can still operate a POV as long as the state has not suspended all of that person's driving privileges.

Yes, you most certainly can be inspected by DOT in a CMV with a regular driver's license. People don't understand the difference between a CDL-required CMV and a CMV. You are 100% correct in pointing this out!

I edited this to add I know of a lady who got a rather large fine by the Virginia DOT at the Roanoke Scales because she was operating a CMV without a medical card. This just happened about a month ago.
