The roadmaster admissions lady said Stevens, Covenant, and Swift are the only ones hiring in FL. Hell, Werner aint. I was told by FFE they are hiring in MO. LCT said they were but they are part of Gainey Transportation.
I was pizza delivery guy and liked it but hated management. I did not make a lot of money and my store catered to rich people.

-
Why Missouri? Just wondering.... -
Ive been seeing ads in the local paper for US Express hiring out of ocala fl. hiring newbs as well and also wil-trans is also hiring just something to think about
-
OK forget the pizza, you tried that. LCT, yes they are part of Gainey, but they ARE hiring. We can't get real picky right now, even in good times there are not many driving jobs in florida. And then there are all the small companies, my personal preferance! They won't run ads all over the place, you have to hunt them down on your own!! Best of luck in whatever you decide......

He was recommending I look into Stevens, but he said the down side would be that they always run their trucks heavy, they go into Canada, and they want you to stay out a minimum of 7 weeks before taking a day off. He also says that while Covenant tries to get you home within a day or two of your requested time off that Stevens tries to get you there within a week of your requested date.
On the plus side, he said Stevens has a large refer department and will keep you running constantly. He said they are based out of Texas, but they are hiring out of Florida.
He had nothing good to say about swift, though, and he recommended that I stay away from them. I suppose I should look into either covenant or Stevens and try to pick the lesser of the two evils.
I tried to write these down while I was on the phone with him. These are the companies that he suggested I look into.
prime
gordan AKA GTI
celedon
Martin
Conway
Thoughts? -
The best one you picked is Conway. I want to be in a good freight area so Kansas City, Missouri is my best bet. GTI is good if you live on the west coast from what i have read, but do not take my word. Last I heard was that martin and celadon wanted 6 months-1yr. Finally, I heard Prime was not hiring out of FL but we see their trucks in fl all the time.

Why would you say Conway over all the rest?
I know somewhere on this site there is a big list of companies and you can read about the good and bad aspects of each. Can someone link me to that?
edit: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/trucking-company-dac-reports/ this is what I was looking for. -

There are 4-5 good trucker boards, please research on different boards, and talk to as many people as possible. Spend a few days at the truckstops, and talk to drivers. I know many new graduates with a cdl, and no job!!!!
FLORIDA is tough for a newbie, trust me.
Good Luck
