Spot on Taylormade. I spoke with a dominos guy yesterday and he said the same thing. I am hoping by January more companies will be hiring.

Anyone know the idling policies for KLLM, Stevens, Werner, and FFE corp?

I just called Con-way and they told me that they are not accepting any student applications. They are presently requiring 6 months OTR experience.

try ct transportation. but i gotta ? do u have any relatives in GA or AL becuz if so you would have more opprotunity. tell the company u currently reside in fla but willing to transfer IF hired. if that works use ther address but the thing is when they send u home u would have to drive your car from the terminal to orlando or just move when ya money get right cuz i might move to valdosta and still be 2hrs away frm orlando. now some companies will let u take home time anywhere in the US but i guess its a luck of the draw and another thing is to find a company with a terminal in fla because atleast u would have a better chance of gettin HOME which is fla

I have to agree with Bigarmin88. It seems no one is hiring students from Florida, even worse if you are below I-4. I can truly say I have talked to almost every company operating in this state, or comes thru, or in the past hired from here. You can check my member since date, this isn't something I jumped into overnight. I wasn't in it for just a paycheck, or sucked in by a flashy commercial, slick talked by a recruiter, like some because work is hard to find, I wanted to be a Truck Driver. So, I did a lot, and I mean A LOT of homework. When I decided to go to school, I was talking with 3 different companies, Conway, U.S. Express, and Wel companies. I had a person in each that I stayed in contact with. While I was in school, U.S. went to hiring only teams, Conway now wanted at least 6 mo., and Wel the final week of school stopped hiring students! After getting out of school, I called over 100 companies, filled out close to that number in apps. (Took me 2 weeks solid 10-12 hours a day) My wife thought I going to kill myself with all the searching, calling, emails, on line, and paper apps. It's rough out there right now. Don't believe the recruiters!!! Their sole job is to get you in the school and thats, that. You'll never hear from them again. If they say, so and so company is hiring, call that company!!! Get someone on the inside aware of you and stay in contact. That'll help trust me. Wil-Trans is the only one I could find who would take a chance on a newbie. They do run teams, and you will have to commit to a 15 month contract, but so what! Experience is everything in this biz. Get 6mo. - 1 yr. - 2 yrs. under your belt, and the possibilities seem endless. When I started this post I was trying to see if anyone might know something I haven't tried. Unfortunately, Florida is just that bad for right now, it'll get better. I'm not trying to scare away any students, wannabes, etc., just wanted to relay the facts. I hope this helps. All I can say is talk to people on this Forum who've been driving a while, DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!! Call companies, not school recruiters!!!

I had to get a GA address temporarily (even though I still reside in FL) and get a GA drivers license. I take home time in FL. The issue is getting in the door, and then you can take home time wherever. If you don't know any relatives, you can rent a craphole for a couple of months to get a lease in order to get a GA drivers license. You gotta do what you gotta do. I can almost assure you that you won't get hired as a student in FL. Also, it doesn't matter where a terminal is. If the company hires out of GA or whatever state...you're good. you don't have to live near the terminal.

I have family in Marietta GA and Knoxville TN but I am not ready to go that route yet. I am still employed and making it by, but by the skin of my teeth. I don't want to wind up at one of these companies and miserable because I feel cheated. I can wait. If I found one worth jumping through hoops then that may be different. From what I read about Con-way they seemed like one such company, but they are now only taking apps from people who have 6 months experience or more. Such is life.

well when i start ill post my time with my company but if u got ppl in GA and TN then u in the game and just use there address but do like lovin truckin and take home time in FL thats what i plan on doing but if ur skeptical then go wit ur first instinct but if u really wanna drive and its in ur blood then do what u gotta do. Because how i look at it is none of my friends and family in fl are gonna support me so i gotta do what i gotta do but best of luck to ya
