I was in parts house today, and saw a local mechanic who has done work for me in the past
He shook his head, and told me about his day so far.
He does road service for large OTR companies, and got a call this AM, seems a company had a truck about 65 miles from his shop, driver said it would not start, and they wanted him to go look at it. So, he and helper drive the 65 miles, find truck and start looking at it. Driver said it would not 'turn-over' and he had no idea what was wrong, he had been there all night trying to figure it out.
Helper jumped up in drivers seat, turned the key and the whole cab moved a little. He then put the shifter in neutral, hit the starter, and it fired right up.
The driver had spent hours trying to start it, with it in gear. Could not figure it out.
Mechanic felt sorry for the OTR company, only charged them 250 bucks.
That is why I will not buy more trucks, good drivers are too few to be found.

No reason for the mechanic to give the company a break. They have what they paid for.

Will they not start with the clutch pushed in if the shifters in gear? My biggest manual was a 6speed so forgive my ignorance

Sure it will start if clutch pedal is pressed. He simply did not even do that.

I have a few comments that should probably not be expressed.

Soon trk will need a new starter. This is why newbies dont usually start at top pay. Would think the driver would have someone with experience they could have called?

Or if the people back at HQ weren’t also dumb ##### they would have said take it out of gear and it would have fired right up. They all need fired.
