Well since Tom Brady got knocked out of the golden boy status. You now are the official last one in the club. Its a tough job but you can do it. PS don't take everything on the internet as gospel.Dont think lot of these post here are even real. And you know people usually like to think and portray themselves a lot more up standing to people who don't know them

I'm not trying to be the last boy scout as you say Pepper
and to reply- If I pull a mud flap off my tractor- I fix it myself and move on- no ones business but mine- but if I pull one off one of the company trailers I take pictures and then send them to our dispatcher and explain what happened and replace it because I KNOW the boss WILL notice and he WILL run down who was last under that trailer and want to know wtf happened and why it wasn't reported! He will forgive a mistake or a small lapse in attention or something like that- but he will NOT over look it if he thinks you're unsafe or lying to him- he even noticed when I replaced a tire on one of his trailers and forgot to report it because the tire pattern didn't match the others!!
I would rather cover my ### and let them know something- even as trivial as bumping a pole in a dirt lot- than get called in and have to defend myself and look dishonest and that I can't be trusted with the equipment- I own my #### and no one can say other wise and I pride myself on that- I think that having a mentality of "Oh it's just a pole-no biggy" is why this industry and the quality of drivers now is so low.

That depends on the company and how many preventables you had before the last one.

i know a guy who backed into a concrete barricade lining his trailer up with the others, except this barrier was further forward. It pushed the barricade over, and he went into the facility and told the receiver. They all walked outside together, the shipper said "no big deal, happens all the time, we need to move them any way." (Other barricades were also pushed down) He said ok, they said thanks for letting us know but don't worry about it, and he went home and got on the TTR later that day. He decided not to tell the safety people since they selectively punish some people for minor infractions and not others who have wrecks, rip off doors, steal time ,etc.

Can't be responsible to be forth coming about some little poles, what else are you deceitful about. Man who can't take self responsibility and do the right thing isn't much of a man in my estimation.

    Why say anything?
The poles are there to be hit instead of the fire hydrant, that's what they're for. To be hit so the fire hydrant isn't.

I'd have told the shipper "what had happened was...." then asked them if they had a shovel so I could fix it. Lastly I would make them sign a non disclosure so it didn't end up on YouTube.

Some one else comes out of pocket for it! You would sing a different tune if it was your property and money that had to pay.
