"Straight" answers are boring, amigo. :biggrin_25525:
Now, ..... I'm not sure what your question is, ......... but I'm assumin' it pertains to mounting deer whistles. Here goes ------>

What you "think" you've read somewhere in one of these posts is what I've read in the instructions that come with the lil' buggers.
    Location
    Location
    Location
    is everythang.
They need complete access to unrestricted airflow to perform properly. Also, they need to be clean all the way through. If a bug gets squished in thar, it needs to be removed.

Properly mounted and clean, it remains uncertain if they actually spook deer --- preventing impact with them.
I have my doubts, but what the heck?
If they might be effective, it might be worth spendin' a few bucks.
(I'm not sure if that pun was intended, ...... or not.):toothy5:

    Deer are "road hazzard".
Non reportable to DOT, and no driver fault.

If you hit a deer, pull over and check your truck.
ANY damage, and you need to get a police report for insurance AND to cover your butt from having an accident on your record.

99.9999999999999% of the time the deer is feeding on the shoulder and will just stand there and watch you drive by.

    .........UNLESS they get scared.

"Deer Whistles", or "deer calls" as I call them, are only good for making them run out on you.
They see and hear traffic all the time.
Then here you come with a weird noise and they panic.
Never came from road before, so it must be on roadside.... "I'll run into the road to get away".
    BAMMO !!!!
Your deer calls CAUSED a collision.

NEVER slow or speed up... steady and NORMAL.
(they KNOW the rednecks slow down to shoot)
NEVER set your jakes off at them.
    NEVER blow horn at them.
NEVER flash your lights at them.
    ALWAYS use low beams.

NEVER EVER EVER swerve to miss an animal.
NEVER EVER EVER swerve to miss an animal.
NEVER EVER EVER swerve to miss an animal.
NEVER EVER EVER swerve to miss an animal.
    (yes, it's that important.)
I have FOUR friends from H.S. that are in their graves over that crap.

I have driven over a lillion miles, mostly at night, in every single state.
    Have seen GOZILLIONS of deer.
    I have hit ONE...
(broad daylight... spotted fawn.... ran into road away from mowing crew.)

I have also seen drivers with hundreds of thousands of miles and NO deer strikes get several in a row shortly after adding the "deer calls".

BTW - so you remember..... NEVER EVER EVER swerve to miss an animal.

I'm sure it's instinct to want to swerve and miss a deer but it's that split second moment of trying to swerve that can cause a roll over. It's considered an act of nature (hitting a deer) and I know my company would prefer you to go ahead and hit the deer instead of risking a roll over.

I've hit a deer while driving. Just like any other time you strike an object, first thing you should do is pull over safely and ##### the damage. Most likely your front bumper may be broken and will have to be secured with bungee cords or straps. Check to make sure nothing on the underside was damaged, including your fuel tank on that side.

You'll probably have some blood and deer guts on your tires and landing gear.
Before you leave the scene after calling it in to your company, say a little something in rememberence of the deer. After the adrenaline wears off I usually get a little emotional over the event because there was nothing I could do to prevent it.

I was driving a state road in Wisconsin from Tomah towards Appleton when a deer decided to try and cross the road in front of me. I hit the brakes and missed it but then her baby came following behind her and that's the one I struck and killed. I felt really, really, really, really, really bad for the mother deer.

    Oh yeah..... one more thing.....

If you are set up with a cooler and to cook on the road, deer meat (venison) is some of the healthiest you can find anywhere.

Gallon ziplocks and a sharp knife will allow you to salvage a little of the undamaged meat if you want to.

Always remember when you call it in to your company, "The deer hit YOU" not you hit a deer. Never admit fault.
