I am definitely thinking now I will have to tough it out with some rougher outfits, but I really want to do it. I am a rugged guy, I lived in the woods in Vermont for a couple of years...no running water or electricity, heated with a wood stove, cooked over a fire, or the wood stove!

Consider that a blessing in disguise, though. I wouldn't recommend those companies even to people who have clean criminal and driving backrounds. -

All this kinda begs the question now. How likely is it I will be able to find a company who will sponsor me through schooling? If I have to rule out the mega companies will I be ruling out the chance to get company training in exchange for 12 months of service? I'll be paying out of pocket (or loans) up front?
-
1) Do you have the credit to get financial aid?
2) You may not need a CDL mill. The Mega's require it, but not everyone does. If you can get the CDL on your own, try that route as it would be MUCH cheaper. -
I know someone who may be able to help me with the training, I already have the CDL Manual for my State. I am just not sure he has a truck anymore...but if he is willing to help he might know someone who can help give me the extra experience behind the wheel.Ghost Ryder Thanks this. -
Yes it will be disclosed to the company. The safety dept gets a copy of your long form as soon as you take the physical. It shouldn't be a problem though. The big issue is going to be your driving record. Three suspensions is going to hurt you a lot more than being HIV positive.
Good luck to you. Just keep looking someone will hire you.HIVPOZTrucker Thanks this. -
I understand the comments about the HIV status and yes there is a requirement for disclosure when an examine is taken but that's not what I am talking about. In an interview it can not be brought up because there is no reason for it unless the job itself has some safety related issues about it - handling patients or food or a few other things. And if there is a discloser of the status after being hired to anyone who doesn't need to know can be construed as a violation of one's privacy, like other drivers. A company, even though is exempt from HIPAA and other privacy laws does not mean they can't be held accountable for things that are very private in nature or made so through past litigation.
