Been lurking for a while, finally decided to post.
Got a question for you experienced drivers out there. Do long hood trucks actually hold up better or do people just like their looks? And is there any advantage to more streamlined trucks besides fuel economy?

First thing first you should worry about the money you make. Riding in style while going broke does not have many benefits!

I prefer a long hood for a few reasons.
It is easier to work on.
It looks kinda cool.
I can customize it if I so desire.
I enjoy driving it more than a run of the mill aero plastic wonder.
They are highly sought after.
If I want to hire a driver I will have more applications on my desk than if I was the same as everyone else.
People compliment it from time to time. Never happened with any other truck I've driven.
Some will say it burns more fuel due to the shape of the nose. I don't really care. By my calculations the difference doesn't effect me much. The extra fuel burned is offset by my job satisfaction. Perhaps when I am old and senile I will see things the way others see them.

Thanks everyone
So first of all I'm I company driver(and plan to stay that way for a while) and will drive whatever POS they give me.
But I've been told that trucks like the 389 hold together better under heavy loads than for instance a 386. I realize that engines and transmissions probably have more to do with it than anything else and you can put the same ones in either or. -
