@White Dog....just reread your first comment, and I misunderstood. My apologies.
No, of course I don't do those miles as a solo.
And, we aren't starving solo drivers out as a team, bc it's just the way our routes are designed. whatever solos we have are still getting plenty of miles.
Maybe solo drivers with other companies are being starved out...

HL Drvr Thanks this.

Yes...I believe I know which yard your talking about. Was it the one that was like dirt covered, and muddy as hell l when it rained? I'm guessing that was the one off I45 (I believe?)
I haven't been down that way in about a year. I used to deliver GE load going down to Grand Prairie, and every once in while had to bring back a container from that yard.
Thankfully they got that new yard in Hutchins opened up earlier this year. They built a new yard down that way. I haven't even been down there to check it out yet.
Where are you driving now? Or what are you doing now? -
Wish I could PM, guess you have to have 50 messages or something like that before your able to do that.
Not driving now. I miss it A LOT! I would get back in to it with a great deal but I have yet to find that. HL is probably the closest I have seen, it's here in OKC, a Christian company, good home time, good equipment, good pay, (I hear) etc., I'm in a position that I don't have to find a job other than what I have, I just want too. I currently work as an Acft Mech at Tinker on 135's. -
I used to have a boss that worked out at Tinker (think he worked on the engines...or something like that...was probably one of the best people ive met), retired from there, and opened up a business. I helped him open up his business as the Operations Manager. worked there for 4 months before he laid me off bc of he couldn't afford my salary.
Then, I went to work at Pepsi for 1.5 yrs and delivered that crap, until I needed back surgery in Jan. '14. Came back in late April, then continued there until I was able to hook up with HL in Oct. 14.
Leaving Pepsi, I gave myself a ~23,000 raise.
Before HL, I hadn't driven OTR since 2009...and they still accepted me after my road test.
How long has it been since you drove? And, what would you want to do there? OTR, or more day cab type stuff? Like Containers, and delivering to local area stores? -
@Bear135 I'll just give you my normal 2 weeks. I have a "3@2" (which 1 week I make 3 store deliveries, and the other I make 2 store deliveries). I've been on this same route for the past 3 years.
On my 3 trip week, I go to Cleveland area (I leave on Sunday about 1230 pm) and receive a backhaul (nothing has been consistent on a backhaul every single week). Then, I get back on Tuesday morning, have time for family, or for myself, and leave for Greenville, SC about 1230 pm. That is a consistent backhaul where I ALWAYS pick up a load in Memphis, TN, and deliver to AWG. Back by 430 a.m.
Then, I leave for PA, about 1000 a.m and deliver there about 8 a.m., And MOST of the time pick up a Purina load going to Edmond on Saturday morning. (That's about 6400-6500 miles that week). Plus any "STOP PAY" we get.
Then I'm off til Monday afternoon.
Then, on Monday, I leave for North of Milwaukee....about 30 miles north. Deliver there about 7 a.m, and get a backhaul (nothing consistent on this backhaul). Get back about 4 a.m, and then leave to S.C area around 1230 p.m....This run generally picks up in Decatur, AL at a GE yard, and delivers to Grand Prairie, Tx...
But, we take it back to OKC, and I go home....my co-driver lives in TX, so he delivers it solo to GP, TX.
My 2 store week...I get about 4000-4100 miles....plus any "STOP PAY" we get.
Then, it all starts over again.radioshark Thanks this. -
Plus, new recently, after 6 months, you get a 1 week vacation. Then, after your 1 yr anniversary, you get another 2 weeks.
You do have "paid time off", and are allowed 10 days. Any "pto" not used after 10 days, HL buys it back from you.
I haven't used ONE SINGLE PTO day since I've been there, and I'll be getting a $1500 (gross) check in January for any unused "personal time off". -
@Bear135 on this particular route, I WILL gross 75K this year.
Plus, we get a 1/2 cent raise every year on our hire anniversary date.
Anything else you want to know...just ask. -
What is the starting pay rate?
I have 27 years experience -
@radioshark I'm not sure where you're from, or what you were looking for....but, your 27 yrs experience would be treated the same as someone that has 2 yrs (or even 1 yr experience)
OTR would be odometer miles, and anything under 900 miles would be paid at .22 (whether you're sleeping, or driving). Over 900 miles, you get a .02 bump in pay/miles (odometer----hub to hub)
A little extra for each stop you made (split 15.00 for the first stop....ALWAYS a HL. Then, split 30 for each stop after....even if you get loaded or not).
All 5 of my store trips are over 900 miles, and I'm on my 3rd yr. I'm at .25/mile.radioshark Thanks this.
