He seems to have forgotten to taken out the ~$340 before he took the percentage. He must be chocking on the crow he won't admit to eating.
Holy Hanna !

Kinda what Ruthless said. The key is to work smarter not harder
Truck A does a 2500 mile trip for 1.30 per mile which gives him $3250 to the truck. For sake of argument he'll spend $1250 in fuel which will leave him with $2000 for a weeks worth of work/driving now he has to pay all his bill for the truck and at home with $2000 that week
Truck B gets a run 1250 miles at 2.00 per mile which gives him $2500 to the truck. So $650 in fuel leaves him with $1850 with 2 more days to work which if he did a two shorties ($800 each) he would've grossed over $4000 and spent roughly $300 more in fuel. Netting $3150 on 3 loads.
See the concept? While your trying to churn out 3000 miles a week I would've made more than you on less than 2000 miles a week.
You can ask any of us leased on to a percentage company we don't chase miles we only chase 3 things and that's Revenue, Rate per mile, and load details ( along with orgin and destination)BoostedTeg, spyder7723, Hammer166 and 1 other person Thank this. -
That applies to independents as well.
Well, successful ones anyway.
Interesting to see who has a good general understanding of how to make money and who has a calculator & empty bank account.BoostedTeg, CJndaTruck, gokiddogo and 1 other person Thank this. -
Well, I get that if you are working for a higher CPM then you don't need as many miles but the $1.03 is for both loaded and unloaded miles and I don't need to find any of the loads which is worth something too. And certain fees are included too I assume that would be taken out of the % rates.
Not saying one is better, just saying the one could afford a $3,000/month payment if running 3k at $1.03.
But I agree that in doing so, one would be leaving money on the table too. -
Again, just a newbie trying to learn and I appreciate any and all information.
Oxbow Thanks this. -
Learn that the rates are often $2 and up and how will you feel once you switch to % and now find some loads even $4+. On 600 miles. You are right to be doing your homework first.
Oxbow, fordconvert, MidWest_MacDaddy and 2 others Thank this. -
One could afford the payment at those rates provided one wasn't paying for much aside from that new truck.
X2 @gokiddogo's statement regarding %MidWest_MacDaddy Thanks this. -
Those of us talking about 2500 to 3k in a week are not talking gross revenue. We are talking net revenue. After fuel maintenance tolls etc etc. That can't be done at 1.03. Heck that can't be done at 1.53.CJndaTruck and MidWest_MacDaddy Thank this.

Not that hard to do 3k after fuel and tolls. I can do that just delivering groceries ...

Plus with a new truck costing $150k you're going to be paying less in taxes for a couple of years while it depriciates.
CJndaTruck Thanks this.
