Holy Skip batman

My antenna is cracked. I can't hear much of anything.

 

i was sitting at a delivery here close to home. i was in flintstone ga so i figured i would scan the bands. i was hearing skip activity everywhere, so i drifted up to 10 meters. i listened to a 45 minute conversation on USB 28.510 from a guy in southwest germany to a guy in mexico city. it was incredible that the conditions held up that long. they sounded like they were across the street.

 

In the morning, the east coast is open into Europe for hours on 10. Ten watts on SSB is more than enough power when 10 is open.

 

Yep...this morning I worked Scotland, Croatia and Austria on 10 M using a home made wire dipole.

 

what channel do you nomally talk on? Im just ober here in MN i should be getting ya loud and clear.

 

Ok, I get small traces of something on 28 from time to time a lot of static with a small voice ha. bet its probably you. I just installed an amp that has a pre amp on in to listen a little better... next time i am scanning and hear something on 28 I'll let ya know if I get ya.

Ah, ok. I am newer to the game, and just read up on skip last night. I knew what skip was a little bit, but i thought special equipment was needed. I just started running my radio (a cobra 29LX) with a rm italy kl200p getting about 60W of carrier. Might have to try some skip myself here to see what i can get.
