As for the hotel, my SNI contact confirmed the hotel was A LOT to be desired. They moved from the Ramada Inn to Days Inn because of complaints, but since they're both at the same exit the criminal element prevails. A former co-worker of mine who also got laid off back in April lives in the Charlotte area and called me yesterday to say that the neighborhood was bad news and I made a good choice in changing hotels.

Regarding SNI, I spent a lot of time on this forum reading the various posts about all the different carriers that accept recent grads and SNI and Roehl were the only ones that seemed to treat their drivers with a reasonable degree of respect. SNI got the nod because I'm seeing them all the time traveling through Winston-Salem and I know about their terminal in Charlotte. I rarely ever see a Roehl truck, which made me wonder if I would have difficulty getting home time on a regular basis. I also am seeing a growing number of Roehl posts mentioning equipment breakdowns. I believe I've made the right choice and I appreciate your positive comments about them too.

Now, I have no plans on leaving anything behind in the cab when completing my 2-week tours. With a minimum of 2 tractors in the rotation, you're right and I may never see my stuff again. I just hope I can get in a non-smoking pod but I think I may be in the minority regarding that request. Let's just hope they clean up the cab behind themselves as well I plan on doing. ;)

I must be getting old and cranky,eh?
Sounds like ya did your homework on the hotel. I spent minimal time down in Charlotte, I can't stand the heat! Therefore I only said what I did about it.

Any company has +/-'s, SNI, and I'm not blowing any smoke, were the best out of the big companies I was ever with. They actually practice what they preach about respect. That was quite the surprise for me, a good one though.
Don't get me wrong, there will be days when you'll say "WHY ME"!! But, it all works out. Those two weeks out go fast.
When I first started, my DBL tried to get us self polluters in trucks that all of us smoked. They will try.

It's not a bed of roses, but the way I was treated by these guys made it easy to overlook the shortcomings. I can say my pay was always right, I always got my reimbursements, layover, and detention pay with zero problems. You just need to follow the guidelines. But, I never asked for detention or layover, my DBL made it happen. That was nice.

Hey, I'll catch up later this afternoon if I can help you with anything, I have to take the 17 mile trip to town!:biggrin_25525:

I am sure that one would work well. There is also one out there that has all the cooling electronics in the lid. That would allow you to use ice as well if it quit working. I may get a second one to use just for food.

You may also want to try on craigslist where you live. When I knew I was going over the road , I starting looking for "trucker supplies". While looking for a cobra 29, I found several guys who were coming off the road and selling their stuff. I bought a cobra29, another cb, and one of those plug in coleman coolers for less than $100. However, there were several other guys who stated they quit driving for whatever reason or were doing local and were getting rid of there stuff.

I did pick up a great deal on a Rand McNally Motor Carrier's Road Atlas 2010 for only $5. I stopped in at the Love's Travel Center in Lambsburg, VA and they had the 2011 version on sale for $12.95, which was $7 cheaper than Borders Bookstore. Unfortunately, they hadn't received their shipment for the sale, but we're dumping the 2010 version for just $5. I figured with all the Stimulus money that's not being spent on road projects there wouldn't too many changes between versions. ;)

Was that the laminated version? Even though, that's a good price.:biggrin_25525:

I wish it was. I'll just have to keep my hands clean and the lid on my coffee. ;)

Hi everybody, looking to get a start with schneider home run out of Portland OR and was wondering, when they say earnings are typically 15% less, how much would this come to given the economic climate and possible lack of loads..
    Thanks

oh and also, guys working regional west coast, what are the usual places you go, is it mainly I-5 corridor or pretty varied.
