Flatbed or oilfield would probably work for you.

It depends on your dispatcher. I worked at a company, and like you, I didn't require hometime, I'm happy to take my 34 anywhere. Problem I ran into was the company had varying levels of "promises" to other drivers to get them home. They were actually working on their plans first and putting me on the bottom of the list. I had a nice discussion with the big boss and he put me with another dispatcher who understood that it was good for the company that I was flexible and an opportunity for the company and I to both make more money. Things went pretty well after that.

danny: Thanks for the tip. I'd assumed having a driver without "special needs" would be a god sent.

fractell: what school are you going to?

Ok, so after reading the flatbed forums I'm sold. Now to pick a company.

Melton will be/is hireing strait outa school now, I over heard something about a school they would be affilated with in Tulsa, but dogged if I can remember exactly what was said. Worth a call to ask, ask for Monica shes's pretty strait foward. (no that ain't me)

other Flatbed co's can be found on the forum, I have no clue who else might hire outa school. Though a couple of the mega carriers have flatbed divisions, not that I would recomend them.

I would have to agree with sidebox. Central Refrigerated is a very good company and you can get started for no money up front with them. They will even pay for your transportation out there. Room and board are also included. My wife and I have personally driven for them and did very well with Central. One of the biggest reasons I recommend them is because they really went above and beyond on many occasions to help us succeed.

If you are willing to stay out and put your time in the potential for making really good money is there! Take things one step at a time though. As much as you think you may want to stay out its a whole different story once you are out there living in that truck for two three months at a time. Central really values the drivers that stay out and work hard and are usually rewarded with the better loads and longer miles.

Give them a call and talk to a recruiter to see what they have to say.
