At Jim Palmer, as I understand it, you designate a location (zipcode?) as your hometime spot at least 2 weeks in advance, and they get you to that location for your home time. Your trailer will be dropped somewhere and your tractor must be secure. That means you are responsible for what happens to your tractor while at "home" so pick wisely. Often you can pay to park it at a secure self-storage place, tow yard, or in parking lot of a hotel.
Hometime does not have to be at the address on your application or CDL, you designate a hometime spot for taking time off prior to each hometime episode. There may be some small number of miles you can drive the tractor but assume you can't drive the tractor very much at all. Hire a taxi/Uber/Lyft to deal with getting around.
Home time?

Yeah! My kind of driver. They're so use to people volunteering to be indentured servants that it throws them for a loop when they meet a hustler. Everything is negotiable. Like the working girls would say, "No finance, no romance."Rusty Trawler, SidewaysBentHalo and Ironfeather Thank this.

Well living in Alaska and have worked for OTR companies I just flew home. If you plan it right you can get pretty good rates just about anywhere. That doesnt work for everyone but did for me. I stayed out 5-6 weeks
-
I don't know about those companies, but the one I work for will not let you take the truck home. There were too many people using them for personal use. If we were leasing we would be allowed to park it at home.

negotiate, hustle or what ever you one wants to call it but speak to the company about it up front.. ask how the truck and home time works with said company.
-
Dude, recruiters are just used car salesmen that are too lazy to walk the lot.
Make them respect you from the get go.
And never believe them
Most companies require a non refundable deposit for a pet.
Usually 500
Conway was always good about pets and really not a horrible company.
But after being bought out by xpo, they really no longet exist.
Werner might be pet friendly. -
Werner is pet friendly, let's you take truck to home. Hometime can be anywhere in continental 48. New drivers are at 35 cpm 48 otr, 2300-3000+ miles a week varies. Paccar, freightliner, and now Volvo tractors.
No touch freight, lots of drop and hook. Lots of dollar dedicated, plus coke , ab inbev, etc. -
Does Werner have a CDL school ?
-
I just googled that (facepalm) I do not have my CDL yet so I will have to pick a company with a school. Jim Palmer seems to be the one of my dreams
-
No, you cannot do that at most companies.
It sounds like you have no bills im assuming? After the first several checks you should be able to buy a $500 beater to park your truck in the yard and do your errands.
