Are you looking to do a lot of physical labour? Then flatbed is what you want. Otherwise, moving into liquids from dry bulk is an easy move to make. Less to learn.

Take the tank job. Easy money.

Those advertisements are accurate. You will absolutely receive 27% of what you expected.
ChevyCam, snowman_w900 and LoneCowboy Thank this. -

TMC is percentage and will get you home weekly. Be warned the trucks are autos and only run 62mph.

Many if not most of the mega/larger fleets offer weekends home. I can run a list of the ones I know of based on what and who Is do know plus my own experience.
- TMC. If nothing changed since I left there a few years back, so long as you love in their primary hiring zone they "guarantee" you at least 46 of 52 weekends home. (Now notice that doesn't equate to every weekend, nor does it mean that you'll get a full 34 in...many factors play into that, though, and I'm certain that's hardly exclusive to the black n' chrome.) TMC offers drivers the choice of mileage or percentage every six months (but unless one runs out west a lot there's absolutely no advantage to mileage, not on regular linehaul anyway). Bounce mileage paid at 40 come if the dispatched bounce is 150 miles or more (& good luck trying to get it too--many times I saw a 149 mi bounce on my dispatch when the actual was more like 160-something), and should you run an OD, it's an extra 20 cents per dispatched loaded mile on top of the percentage pay (unless that changed). I can't remember if their steel/lumber tarp pay is $10/25 or $25/40 (though this may have changed).
Trucks governed to 62, which is for the birds.
- Maverick. Much like TMC (in more ways than a few--in fact the respective owners were college buddies), they also offer weekends at home. I don't know if they "cap" it like TMC does. The last I knew they start drivers at 48 cpm. Don't know about their accessorial, but their (all automatic Freightliner Cascadia) trucks are set to 65.
- Jordan, Boyd, WTI and McElroy all also offer weekends home, but other than than Jordan I don't remember any other specific details. Jordan just recently just jumped their starting pay up to 55 cpm...I don't remember if the other three pay mileage or percentage.
- I believe both BTC (Builders Transportation Company out of Memphis) and P&S Transportation both start out at 27% and offer weekends home too, but I haven't spoken with any of their drivers in a long time so I'm out of the loop when it comes to those two.
- There's a relative newcomer to the game, too, and that's JLE Industries based up out of Dunbar PA (near Pittsburgh). Their starting pay is based on experience and ranges from 55 cpm to 60 cpm. Last I knew they were also offering $5000 sign-on bonus, paid out over 180 days. They are still *kinda* on the small side, at roughly 220 trucks, but they're also looking at doubling that number in the next 1-5 years. I can tell you their trucks are loaded to the gills (APU, refrigerator, TV, inverter AND DirecTV--but some also have two-way cameras too ). From what I'm told their trucks are capped at 68 mph. They're flexible about home time--drivers can opt for weekends home or stay out as long as they like.
That's all I got for right now... -
Southern Freight out of Morristown, TN Will get you home every weekend. New Automatic 2019 trucks, Dry Van. They pay somewhere around .45 cpm. Buddy of mine works there and he grosses like $1500 a week there.
