Sounds like a different heat source might be in order,...

Electric base boards would be a quick alternative,..

I would take my "home time" in either San Diego or Tampa during the winter.

Thanks. It's obvious that you have done this before.

My well pump is in the cellar of the pump house and I do have a compessor already in the pump house. This has been done before when it was my dad's house. I have done this to a camper trailer before but not the house.

Thanks, but if I wanted electric heat, I would live in the city.

Wood heat is NOT just a choice of heat source, it is a way of life.

Electric base board heat is expensive. Did it last winter, and the electric bill was outrageous.

And don't forget to break the prime on the pump so it doesn't crack.

Wood heat here too. More than 20 years with no other source. Yeah--it's a way of life!

I live in FL so I can't give you "frozen pipe" advice! My wife and I did drive team for about 7 years and didn't have a home during that time. As soon as we started driving and I made sure she was ok with it, we sold the house and put or stuff in storage. The only thing we did wrong is to put our stuff in storage. It ended costing us more than the crap was worth. After the first year we sold it all! Any little personal items like photos and such we stashed at relatives houses. We took our home time where ever we wanted. Saved a lot of money. You can get yourself a P.O. Box to get your mail sent to.

LOL. I am not a purist. I do have a oil furnace out of a mobile home to break the chill when a wood stove, not a wood furnace, is toooooo much heat.

being that i have done construction for a while, and still do on the side, you cant leave your house and not have your pipes freeze, i dont know what these guys are talking about with heat wraps but they wont do much to protect your pipes in the walls if you dont have any heat going to your house. and if you were to leave your house for an entire winter, chances are you'd be coming home to a house with some new inhabitants, when you vacant a house for any period of times animals take notice and will find ways into it, raccoons and such.

you're much MUCH better off having someone live in your house, either rent it out, or talk to a friend or family member, charge them cheap rent and then you wont have to worry about your pipes bursting.
