I wouldn't be difficult for the sake of being difficult, but whenever I get angry, I believe it's because I don't have all the facts. I'm not even sure if the load planners are aware of the imminent hometime west when they send us a load that goes 1200 miles east.

So when you get the plan heading to the coast 2 days before your home time, heck even 4 days before, ask if it's going to put you in a lane to get home. If not remind your dispatcher that you need to be home. Express your concerns and see if they are willing to work with them or not.

This hometime was requested 2 weeks in advance, and they normally ask for just 1 week. I always give them plenty of time to work in a route home.

A friendly reminder or two never hurts. Many times things can slip their minds.

I can understand the stress. Going O.O would pretty much seal your fate in never, ever getting home cause now you have to pay for that truck!

So are you working for a mega-carrier? If so, then yes you are just a number and they could care less if you ever go home. Usually run you till quit. That's why they are always hiring!:yes2557:

So if your not driving for a mega-carrier then how often are you wanting to go home? I would say, despite what your recruiter told you, cause that's a crock, the average time out is 4-6 weeks. Longer if you aren't living in or among freight lanes. Also sometimes crap just happens and they might just not have freight going in that direction.

Sorry its very frustrating especially when your out for long periods of time but its all part of the job. I highly advise you not to convey the same attitude toward your DM though. This will result in you sitting at a truck stop in N. Dakota until you quit!

I hate to say it but hometime with a company should have been in your reserach before you went to work at that company. If you would have known how hard it is then you could have prepared for it or gone to another carrier. When you get up and look in the mirror then that's the one you complain to. I suggest you run hard and without questions until your dispatch will work for you. Get on the good side by running hard and legal and you'll see they will come around.

I run my butt off when I am out....and I work for a so called "mega carrier" yet I always seem to get home when requested.

seems like a driver problem to me.

Same here and I find my dispatchers actually work to make sure I get home when I want...Right now for example...I was scheduled for HMT this weekend so dispatch got me a load that could be repowered from my home terminal to make sure I got home as well as the person taking the repower as his home was at the destination, they knocked out 2 birds with one load!!!...I request my hmt 2-3weeks in advance and remind them religiously via the qualcomm...

    sry nothing to see here.
Getting home.. Request the day before you need to be home and don't make dispatch mad for the month before you need to be home. Put your head down and drive and be 'pleasant' on the phone with the ones who rule you. Hopefully you really like them. I like mine and am doing well.

It needs to work both ways, GldnEagle. More needs to be done for drivers industry-wide.
