DEF tank is no different than any other steel type tank mounted to the frame of a tractor. Honestly,.. I do not care about the legality or not. If I put diesel or cat piss in it,.. I dont see DOT or anyone else opening it to make sure I'm not bootlegging something I shouldnt have.
In either case,.. I've had other people tell me I shouldnt be carrying the plastic fuel cans full of gasoline in my side box. I'm doing it,.. and will continue to do it. Its not like I am advertising or bringing it to anyone's attention.

Except, that you just did... oops

Oh I'm sure he's terrified now. DOT might track him down and give him a $20 ticket
I'm willing to bet you could run a def tank and no inspector would ever notice that the line ran from it to a toolbox containing the generator. I'd run it, it would be nice filling that tank once every few weeks.Last edited: Aug 11, 2016

I wouldn't use a def tank. You want a tank made to gasoline standards. Gas is obviously highly flammable and explosive, so will be built to withstand impact forces unlike def tanks. If it was me, i would look at some rail buggy gas tanks, they look good and are not expensive.Hurst Thanks this.

Nobody is suggesting the plastic ones. We're talking about the aluminum or stainless steel type that match your fuel tank.Hurst Thanks this.
-
Yes but what grade and thickness of aluminum or stainless are they using for a non combustible liquid tank? I don't know, but id bet its not as strong as the ones designed for gasoline.
Edit to add: and the price is probably very close, so is go with the gas tank. -
My comment was tongue in cheek. FYI.Terry270 Thanks this.

Has your truck mileage gone up? Or did you have apu before,?
-
No I didn't have an apu before and I'm ecstatic to say my fuel mileage went from the high 4s and low 5s to the low and mid 6s.

Anyone got any opinions on this ?
I already run Mobil 1 10/30 in my generater and recommended drain is 100 hrs and I'm putting that on in 7 days in high heat and changing oil weekly which is easy and inexpensive.
But I'm thinking about going to Mobil 1 5/40 extended drain and running it to 200 hours .
Any thoughts ?
