Trucking isn't the only industry that if you lie on the app. you won't get fired/hired. I was a Hard Rock Miner working in MT for a company that fired many people because of lying on the app. Get hurt, cause problems, ect they would then do a back ground check, find a lie, your done. Honesty pays.

Just to clear things up, I didn't mean to say everyone has done ilegal drugs, just that they might assume everyone has because so many people have. I don't think I know a single individual has hasn't at least tried a little pot once or twice in their life. But maybe my friends are all just a bunch of hippies.
Anyway, thanks for all the reply's, gives me a lot to think about.
Here's another question: I have completely clean criminal record and MVR. Work history is spotty, but I have a good reference for the last three years which it seems is all most companies require. During the last three years though, I took a different job for about 6 weeks then quit and went back to what I was doing before. That probably doesn't look good so I would prefer not to mention it (heck, it sucked so bad I would prefer not even remember that job myself!). Will a company find out about it somehow? Like do they check tax records or something and see exactly where you have worked or do they just check with the previous employers you list on your app to verify employment.
BTW, that is the sort of "fibbing" I am talking about that it seems is common on job apps; just leaving off an ugly bit of info that really isn't relevent anyway. I'm not saying I think anyone makes a habit of claiming to be a former brain surgeon with a license to fly jumbo jets who speaks 14 languages fluently and is an olympic gold-medalist. -
