How close to corn harvest are you? As I said before they are cutting high moisture corn but it's going to take some time for the rest to dry down.

Hopper rates are bad... but after looking what Landstar is offering MM before their cut, they are almost reasonable.

I guess that's why you want a good rate going in. I've heard Texas is hard to get out of too.

I think we are probably a month away, corn is still green as can be, as are beans except for a few sudden death places showing up in the beans now. I got the break I was wanting, elevator is done with us for a while unless something unforseen happens. They're close enough to empty that they are going use the rest of their inventory to keep their own trucks busy. This was our busiest summer ever, so I have no complaints.

Got a ton of stuff to get done, going to Ohio to pick up fence posts this week, got to go over both hoppers, wash, inspect, and get them ready. One of them has road oil splattered all down one side- dad was waiting at a one-lane construction zone, they gave him the go sign, got halfway through and around a blind curve, here came the traffic from the other direction. All he could do was pull into the oil they'd already put down to pave on and stop, but the oil still went everywhere. The truck is bad, but the trailer is a nightmare. The only time I'd wished we had black hoppers!

Think I read here that truck failures were down in 2nd quarter. However the only reason they were was the lenders didn't want the trucks because of low resale value. They need to let some of these marginal carriers fold so the rates might go up.

That's what is happening here now. Just sitting and waiting, and waiting. Too bad about trailer, could be bear to get oil off. Gas might get it off but might harm paint...not sure.

I was talking to a salesman at the freightliner dealer last week and he said that 47% of fist time truck buyers defaulted withing 90 days in the last quarter
