Well, greased, cleaned up truck...must be time to go back to work, if there is any. State Fair starts here Friday so traffic will be bad. Also will have many bears in for the fair, not wise to speed this week.

Discovered Sunday that the air to air on the T-6 has a big leak in it. My mechanic friend brought a tester out and hooked it up, put about 10 psi to it and "SSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH". There's a crack in the top plate on the right side and the top 5 or 6 tubes on that side appeared to be leaking. Took it to a radiator shop, said they can fix it. Hope so, those things aren't cheap. That truck has been a disappointment on MPG ever since we got it, will barely get 6. Put a flow through muffler on it about 3 weeks ago, and it picked up .1 or .2, but still barely getting what the old one did with a 3406. So we'll see how much fixing the air to air leak helps, certainly can't hurt.

Decided that now would be the perfect time to change the radiator hoses. I loosened the cap before I undid the plug on the bottom pipe, but still got a bath. Antifreeze doesn't taste too good! :biggrin_2554: Doesn't feel too good in an eye either. I'm putting a shut off valve on it before I put it back together, not going to put up with that every time it needs drained.

Got any work lined up this week, wheathauler?

Not very much. Probably haul a few loads of seed wheat screenings. I could have hauled some loads further out but didn't want to increase my radius for the time being. It would have been taking corn to feedlots...elevator taking corn out of has of nasty habit of getting their corn rejected. I sure don't want to wander all over trying to get rid of a load of corn. I did that years ago, went to two places with corn then had to take it back where I got it.

Rainy and cool today. High 60's. Harvest seems to be getting farther and farther away. Will have harvest sometime hopefully before it snows.

Getting that leak fixed should help it quite a bit.

Wheathauler we salted 180 acres of rice yesterday so we plan to start friday. I'm ready to get out of this rock truck. I had a steer wheel bust today. Luckily enough held so that when it started shimmying I was able to get it stopped. Got the new wheel then took it to the shop for 2 front wheel seals and a large air leak. I hope you get some loads to suit you soon.

I guess you would be ready to get out of rock truck. I think there will be enough loads until harvest starts. Good luck on rice harvest.

Cloudy and cool today again. Around 70. Talked to farmers I haul for today. Their crop consultant said corn would be ready middle of October. Beans would probably be ready before that. Think maybe they planted late because of weather. That's the latest every cut corn by far. Milo even later than corn. Here's hoping for a warm fall.

Once beans start will be busting our butts hauling them... beans are waist high on dryland.

Cowdoc, when you said you had a steer wheel "bust" what did you mean, broke around the bolt holes, or deflate? Probably got your blood pressure up when it happened I'm guessing!?

The corn around here is just starting to get some brown leaves, beans starting to get some yellow, still going to be close to a month for most of it. Its weird, used to be, I'd try to have everything ready to go by Labor Day and probably start the following week or so. But the last two years have been so late, Oct 1st is more of a target date.

Be careful if you get into any old corn in a bin that has nasty, moldy dust in it. Friend of mine that drives for the elevator in town was hauling some bad corn last week, and was wearing a mask, just the plain white kind, not the respirator kind, and had to go to the hospital yesterday because he couldn't breathe. He was on oxygen this morning, then I heard at noon they had to take him to Springfield because he was worse. Hope things improve for him, he's barely 50.

My son worked as an intern at a elevator. He got in some bad milo and had to go the ER. Didn't admit him but he was having a hard time breathing. Had him on some machine to put oxygen in blood or something like that. He's really allergic to grain dust now.
