Started out sunny by 2pm was raining. Called ADM see what they had going. So much for harvest rates ...1.00 a mile. That was seventy miles out might get better closer in. Would pay good except for deadheading to pick up the load. No loads going out there. They were paying as much for a twenty mile load last year...instead of seventy miles.

We are having the same weather down here, nice until about three and it has been raining since. Lot of trucks hanging around is that why the rate is low and will they negotiate any? You think they would work a little with their regular home boy truckers but their big business.

Nope, Cargill who I usually haul for wouldn't budge on rates when the price of fuel went up 40 cents on the haul. Take it or leave it situation. Like you said too many trucks.

WH, is that rate hauling off the farm or out of an elevator? Either way it sucks. I can't believe people haul for peanuts like that! So for a 950 bushel load of corn, 70 miles, that's about $ .136 per bushel? Or did you mean you get a dollar a mile each way?

There were some beans cut around here today, I hauled 2 loads for a guy whose truck was broke down. Forecast for rain coming in tonight and tomorrow. Dad and brother had to quit by about 7, the beans were dry but the stems got tough quickly after dark.

RW out of elevator. It was 900 bushels of beans for 15 cents. Works out to 96 cents a mile for 140 miles. Can't overload either 80,000 or you take off extra. I knew Adm was paying around a dollar but figured it would go up for harvest. If there was a load going out would make a big difference.

Farmers I haul for pay much more than that. I was just surprised ADM was still that low.

Hubby got better rates from the farmers than he did for Scoular when he was down there last year for wheat harvest. But it make sense, if you think about it, because they are just taking the place of the broker in your case. :biggrin_2556:

Down here it is the Johnston Elevators or ADM. If your hauling for a farmer and he uses the Johnston's Elevator they have two lines. One line for semis hauling from another elevator and then the line for farmers. You just put the name of the farm in your window and you don't need to wait very long to unload. If you go to the big ADM elevators you get in line with everyone else. Just like with you the farmers pay better but a lot them have their own trucks to.

Yes, more and more farmers are getting their own trucks. The ones I haul for got a truck and trailer too. I have lost some loads because of that but normally I can haul elsewhere too.

During summer harvest Cargill East is for farmers...Cargill West for commercial vehicles.

We've had about .3" so far, pretty lucky, the radar looked like down around St. Louis they were getting hammered. Another day of no hauling, the elevators are basically empty, so they don't have anything to move. Later in the season if we get rained out of the field, usually the elevators need to move corn out, so we keep hauling anyway.

WH, glad to hear that your farmers pay you a fair rate, I was a little worried hearing the quote from ADM, don't know how a person can make a living on that rate?
