    10lb is what he got.

Some do, some pay by the mile. Then you have the "back hauls" which is a crock. Just when you think you have it all figured out, something else crops up. LOL

Going to be slow week. Just hauling to ethanol plant. Me and fifty other trucks, good heavens there are a lot of trucks there. Bean plant closed until next Monday, and elevators trying to get more milo out to ethanol plant.

They want it out before harvest hits. As usual they wait too long to get grain out. Harvest is funny can't wait to start then can't wait for it to end. It's one to three weeks of non stop hauling. Some trucks start in Texas and follow it up to the dakotas.

I'll exchange my cargill for your cargill. Yours can't be any worse. Lucky if you leave elevator an hour after they're supposedly open in the morning. Then they load trains when we are supposed to be loading out. They close at 3:45. Then they wonder why we haven't hauled many loads.

These are all part of the frustrations. I was pulling from ADM in Valdosta to Tyson in Oglethorpe (also in GA). I could get 2 rounds done from 3pm to 2:30am but if I did a 3rd and got there anytime after 5:30 or 6am I would be stuck for about 5 to 6 hours. But at least they were open 24 hours. The receiving hours of most of these places make it really difficult to run an efficient operation.

If a trucker held a sign it would say "Will work for work". It's pretty ridiculous. I have to drop off first thing in the morning, then deadhead HOPEFULLY in time before the next place closes, wait possibly a couple hours on either end or both, and then at 4pm when I'm loaded, i realize that that is officially the START of my day. Now I have to run the load so I can unload the next morning and start all over.

Pharm, your run doesn't make my day sound so bad. I would hate to think 4 PM was the start of my day. The only good thing about those hours traffic shouldn't be so bad. Hopefully they pay enough to make it all worthwhile.

The bean plant in Wichita is open 24 hours which is pretty nice. I least you have some options on when to deliver.

My grain merchant from hell called. He seemed to think there would be no problem to haul 80,000 bushels of beans in two days. Granted, bean plant open 24 hours but elevator isn't. It takes an hour to get to bean plant. However, bean plant has been closed for two weeks so everybody and his brother will also be there.

I guessing he will want 15-20 trucks to haul on it. The parking lot holds maybe thirty, I'm sure other trucks will be there. I see a problem.

Glad to know they're consistently frustrating to deal with!

Lately we've been hauling into a place that just dumps it straight off of your trailer onto a barge. They have a pit that can hold 2 trailer loads, and 2 conveyors feeding the barge from the pit. When things are going well, its actually a pretty fast place to dump. Has a scale for loaded trucks, scale for empty trucks, and 2 guys at the pit to crank your hoppers open, you don't even have to get out of the cab. But as I'm sure you can guess, when the barge gets loaded, it takes some time to switch to an empty one, a minumum of 30 minutes, sometimes longer if the tug has problems. Its been pretty busy lately, loading 2 barges a day.

Interesting, that would be different unloading there.

The paper said harvest was a week away in southern tier of counties. Hopefully sooner, the loads are getting scarce. I'm thinking this wheat may be ready to cut for the southern half at the same time. Bad for farmers good for truckers. Also makes for long lines at the elevator.
