Yea I had to jump through all the hoops except $1k for escrow. Also, because of an unmentionable driver who will remain anonymous I had already been drained much more than the tune of 1700 miles and a few thousand. Earl is deducting the $1k from my settlement. That part doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It is not the greatest deal in the world, but better times are ahead.PharmPhail Thanks this.

Oh and as for what Earl says about rates...I think he just doesn't want drivers to get angry with him when they end up making $1500 instead of a well hoped for $2500/week.
He told me I could expect to make $1,000/week or maby $1,500 on good weeks. The first load paid the truck almost $1,500. I hope for $1,500 but I know it could reach above $2k on a good week.
On the other hand, I asked if I should get $1.30/mile on a regular basis. They must have misunderstood me, because they acted like that was EASY. I'm talking after all fees and what not, I don't think they were. A load has to pay around $1.68 for the truck to see $1.30. I think the average load is paying, like Earl said, $1.16/mile on average. The loads that are above $1.20 seem like a good deal for long runs; $1.30 for short.
Anyways, best of luck to you! -
Are you using a driver? I would still think should be paying fuel surcharge. Around here they supposedly up the rate to cover it but I wonder. Actually now that I think about it one does add fuel surcharge to rates varies by weekLast edited: Jun 15, 2009

Hope everything works out for you. -
I don't care how they label it. Whether there is a fuel surcharge and regardless of the pay per ton, it just comes down to how much it pays per mile. If a load is paying $1.20/mile then it doesn't need a fuel surcharge. If it is paying $1.02 then it better have a HUGE surcharge.
-
I would agree on how much per mile. I'm not going into how much a mile, depends on a persons own situation. Some need more some less. Stir up a hornets nest when trying to decide how much per mile is enough.

We just have a simple pressure guage mounted in the dash and one on the trailer. They're not super precise like an air weigh set up probably is, but with experience with them, they'll get it close enough. How much does the air-weigh system cost for a truck and trailer?
-
For tractor and trailer installed it was 1200-1300 dollars at Wichita. My timpte was a little hard to get the air line through so probably added to labor. Person could do it himself I believe. Not sure what it cost without installation. I do hauling out of field which this is good for.
Still have to be level to work properly. -
Wallagator, what happend with the phone call with Earl?
