Kansas, I should clarify my post a little. The hopper truck was not the one trying to execute the U-Turn...it was the four wheeler that was trying to do that. They pulled out in front of the hopper. With that said though, there's no telling how that accident could have been changed had the truck been within legal weight limits. Maybe it wouldn't have made a difference, maybe it would have. :biggrin_25513:

Also, I heard yesterday that the elevator he loaded out of (the BIG one on the southwest side of Wichita) is facing some trouble for letting him leave that heavy. Apparently they won't let you leave over 80,000 now, regardless if you have a spread axle trailer or not. So, now, because of the actions of one irresponsible driver, I'll be penalized if I ever load out of that facility. Of course, I hardly ever load out of that facility because their rates are always in the toilet. Maybe this will be an important lesson learned for them that the carrier with the lowest rates can be an extreme liability to your company. I'm sure we've only seen the beginning of the after effects of this recent accident.

I heard the same thing about that elevator too. You're also right about what they pay. It wouldn't surprise me at all if all elevators went to 80,000 gross. That will definitely hurt the bottom feeders.

The trucker and carrier will still be in trouble regardless who was at fault. I'm sure his records will be gone over with a fine tooth comb. I'm sure they will check the truck over too. The lawyers will still go after them because he was overweight. If he was on interstate he should have had only 80,000 on.

I talked with a DOT officer here that told me they will shut down anyone that is driving a commercial truck that cannot speak english. He said the first things they will ask is where did you load at, what are you hauling, where are you headed for and he said if they can't answer in english they are put out of service until the company sends someone that can speak english. He said most of the violaters were from Texas since you can take the CDL in spanish, got to love the politicians in Texas. Well I hope other states will adopt the same laws. Kansas would have trucks sitting all over. :biggrin_2559:

I dropped off my load from friday, 30 mile dead head, got 3/4 loaded, and the loader fell apart. Guy's off on a parts run.

No, Thank goodness. I didn't figure it would get much better. Cargill is just flooding them with wheat. 7-12 that's better than bankers hours. Had stuff I could haul and then the rains hit. Gets pretty muddy where you pick up the load. It's going to have to dry out now for awhile.

Sounds like a Monday. If it fell apart going to need a lot of parts.

Horizon broke down, so they sent us over the 25th st to dump. Guess what? They friggin broke down too so I am stuck with a load of what on for the moment. Hope they get one of them fixed soon.

Nah, we got it back together. It's a new holland loader, like a bobcat. The bolt that holds the main, uh, thing on where it pivots at the end of the arm snapped. He had to get a new bolt, three nuts, several washers, and a grease cup. $106 worth of crap that would cost maybe $10 at a hardware store. Ah well, got loaded and actually made it to the place in time to unload. Now have to run back for tonight to grab three more loads tomorrow and head for illinois after that.

Think this'll be a busy summer. We're working on stockpiles from last year and have 1.1 million more ties to move this year.
