I have a couple of question for you guys.

    1. How steady is the winter running for hoppers? (Year round)

    2. What is the price RANGE for a desent used hopper bottom trailer. I've been looking and there doesn't seem to be a over abundance of them lying around.

    Thanks in advance.

Normally, develop enough contacts you can stay busy during winter. However late Dec, Jan, Feb can be slow. Last year was terrible during Jan & Feb. A person should try to save some money during summer and fall just in case.

Price range trailers? Good question... This time of year they will be high and hard to find. I haven't looked at price of used trailers in a while. Pharm might know better than me. I'm guessing have to spend at least 20,000 for a functional hopper and would pass DOT. RW got a good buy on new one.

everything I've seen is on truckpaper and late model. A lot of them say "call" but the ones with prices listed are pretty much all late $30k's early 40k's.

I'm sure I'll dig deeper sometime in the next week if things get urgent. :biggrin_25516:

20-25K should get you a decent hopper, depending on how nice you want it. If you want something bare bones, just to run during harvest, 10 or 12K would get you something, but don't expect it to be pretty. If you take care of them, they hold their value pretty well.

Only if it presents itself and it works well for everyone. I spoke to that guy once to find out what he needed but he hasn't gotten back to me. We never even spoke about numbers so I'm sure nothing I said ran him off. He must have had something else in the works that panned out.

I intend to provide tags and try to split insurance. An O/O leased on has to do at least 90cpm or higher after all is said and done. It's not easy right now. Especially if the truck needs consistent attention.

pp Hang in there it would seem that you are doing pretty well for now considering the economy and all the mishaps, but hopefully you will have gotten all that of your system by the time it picks back up
