I ve never had a tag axle, but it seems to me that if you have the same tires on your tag as on your tandems, the tag would last longer because it would be raised most of the time.

its a smaller tire on the tag.
-
If you leave it down around a lot of corners or while maneuvering in a small space, it will chew them up pretty quick. Only have them down while running straight down the road if you can help it.
-
thank you very much , we run pretty heavy and to keep weight off the steers we have it down alot.
-
you know what i was just corrected by my ole man. we have a steerable pusher. sorry i said the wrong thing. so can you still help ????
-
There also might be to much pressure on it. Do you have the gauge and an adjustment dial to turn it down a little? Or would that put to much on the steers?
-
Steerables always wear tires out fast, especially with smaller tires. They are made for straight line tracking, and it is the scrubbing of the tire on the pavement that makes them turn. Ask any dump truck driver that has one about tire wear.
-
i was surprised at how fast the tires need replaced. so this is a common thing?
-
yes we have a guage. and we 380 wheel base, with pusher up we have 15500 on steers ( loaded) and when we put enough air in it we have 12500 on steers with it down.

Does yours have springs at the tie rod to keep the tires tracking straight?
