Door to door for road service at $80/hr - they billed 2 hours. My problem was the fact that it didn't take 2 hours to do the work, and I was 20 minutes from their shop - argument back was they bill $120/hour after 5pm and the guy didn't get back to the shop til 7 - I was charged the daytime rate.
2 Bandag recaps on clean, quality casings - $260/ea = $520 - this is a normal price and some (truck stop shops) do charge more.
1 New steel disc wheel # $280
1 tire disposal - the one that aired down and marked the sidewall up $12
The rest I'd assume was probably tax, materials and ?
Overall, not the best way to find out some tires can't take a 6 inch street curb and save a wheel - Guess I've just been luckier before. I always try to catch the curb at enough angle to climb with the tread, not the sidewall - and it really has worked up until now. I still think that tire casing was a piece of junk and I'm glad it's off the road for good.
And I will say this - there was no saving that wheel - I beat on it before and after monster man did - and it never budged - what a bummer! Wonder how much high quality aluminum is going for these days at the scrap yard - like about 60+ pounds of it..... -
Was it an aluminum wheel? Cause if the steel ones won't bend, you just get a bigger hammer. I hammered one out with a little 1lb hammer. Took forever but you just keep at it. Hell, you should have kept the wheel and scrapped it yourself.
If they charged $280 for a steel wheel, that's a ripoff. Normal price is $90, used is around $50. -
By the way, I have to say that after finding great service at a couple of shops in PA - I've done some business in the state recently and been impressed with the commitment to service. It's just too bad that I can't idle or buy fuel in PA (too expensive!). Fuel was 3.459/gallon when I passed through PA, and it's 3.129 here in OH - that's a big difference at 200 gallons per stop. -
Dodged the bad storms again. It's been a rough week for storms in Kansas.
HwyPilot Thanks this. -

the ifta tax is paid on the amount of fuel used & purchased in each state not the miles ran.
-
Sure you pay tax at the pump,...However when you fill out the ifta report your filling in the miles ran in each state and only paying tax on those miles,...

cowdoc, are ya'll 'bout done with planting? Glad you missed the worst of the storms, wheathauler. I bet its been windy though,my cousin yanks a step-deck and he said he saw some of the storm damage when he drove through Oklahoma, anybody heard from Big John lately,i hope he made out ok thru all the bad storms? It looked pretty bad on the weatherchannel through ya'lls neck of the woods.
Folks around here are finally getting back in their homes after all the flooding. -
We're about 2/3 done dairyman. We were rolling but we've had 3 rains in a row. The last 2 1/2 weeks we've just worked a day and a half. They sold the rest of their rice yesterday so we'll be back to hauling out shortly. I gotta get my knee fixed. The swelling usually comes and goes but it's stayed swollen 5 weeks straight now. Too many calf/cow licks in my prior deal. There just seems like there's never a good time but I gotta do it.
dairyman Thanks this.
