I hear the same thing mbv, that is the cheapest trucking you can do, well I call bs on that. I have hauled some oversize loads that after all the expenses and extra fuel burned and the time it took to haul it and time away from home it was cheap.

You have to do what you want to do and what makes you happy but you still need to make money, you can't truck for free. I know a lot of drivers that pull hoppers and make a profit and I know a few drivers that stay on the road for weeks at a time pulling other equipment and don't make a profit. I pull a flat and find I make the most money on the short and regional runs and I try to stay within a 300 mile radius of home.

In anything you do you need to watch your cost and don't haul it if it doesn't pay. I turn loads down every week because it doesn't pay enough or it is going to an area that it is tough to reload out of. Let someone else haul that cheap stuff and let them work for nothing and go broke. I plan on going back and pulling hoppers myself in the future and being home with my family just about every night if I can.

Also remember you may have to go that extra mile to take care of that customer when someone else doesn't but it may pay off in the long run.

Do what makes you happy and keep positive doing it!

I had a two drop load coming out of Waco, TX. I was going to Little Rock last Sunday and went to get my load and it was bound for Waco. I unloaded in Halstead and then Liberty Homes in Yoder.

I am getting ready to leave the house and go to Medicine Lodge to pick up a loaded trailer for Springfield, MO.

I seen some hopper guys from Iowa and a couple from Louisiana at the truck stop.

That sucks, calling you the day of the funeral to come back to work that is disrespectful. I don't blame you and I would be looking for another job myself.

Sorry to hear about your granpa's passing, crop jocky. I lost my grandpa 10 years ago and i can't beleive how much i still miss him,i can't tell you how many loads of square bales of alfalfa i loaded with him driving the baler tractor and me loading the wagons behind him. Sounds like the co. you drive for had ''NO CLASS'' calling you on the day of the funeral, thats pathetic IMO:biggrin_25513:
