Why would a broker shout at you for needing repairs? He doesn't have to pay for it!:biggrin_25510:

Because he booked a high dollar load that had to go now and didn't have anyone else in the area to get it.

He was just a jerk, period. :yes2557:

    Aaaah! I see...

You know, I am planning on leasing on some trucks and in the last few days I have recieved over 80 emails and voicemails combined. Some I talked to for a couple minutes and others kept me on the phone for an hour or so. It just surprises me that someone would be so rude to the driver that is taking his loads. Its good news for me, I suppose, when I am able to someday broker loads to drivers and be respectful about it. I think the problem is there are too many drivers and too few qualified and incentivized brokers. Why would you treat someone well when you make the same amount being a dick? There are good brokers out there, you just have to find them. We stumbled upon this guy just by chance really. A friend of hubby's saw the number on the back of one of his trailers and called us. We had pretty much worn out the yellow pages and also any local contacts we had at the time. Took us 6 weeks to find this guy.

But all in all, he's miles above the other guy. :yes2557:

I don't think that we have done everything right, its all a learning process and at two years, we still feel really green at the O/O game.

Talk to people and talk some more. The ones that give you that eerie feeling, run far away, because your gut is usually right.

That sounds like that broker from Nebraska I had back in the 90's hauling cows. His name was Bob, he was cheap, a liar and a jerk.

LOL No wasn't Bob, but I know who you are talking about. He called hubby as soon as he found out we walked away from the other guy. :biggrin_25525: Said no thanks.

I think just because it's so soon after harvest. They may not know what needs to be moved. Also the elevators won't move a whole lot until they can figure out what fall harvest will be.

The weather now is hot and dry... If this would continue a long time, they wouldn't move as much wheat out... The fall harvest could be small and they don't want to have empty elevators...as in no storage fees.

Also farmers may not have sold very much grain. The prices have been dropping since harvest.

What is affecting you on loads not sure...You haul different products than me I believe.

Could haul for different grain company today but 1.00 a mile is pretty bad. I get tired of calling and hearing what the rate pays. I can actually remember when they called you and the rates were good.

Crazy part is I was making more money last year when fuel was high. Seemed like you could always get them to go up on rate because fuel was high. Maybe it was because they were paying high prices for gas too. Granted econony hasn't helped but it has been a strange year. Shippers and brokers got us by the ### this year.
