the guy i work for we haul quite a bit of salt to the state barns this time of the year so as far as that goes we stay busy til they get caught up lol

i have a question i have a yr exp and im thinking of buying the truck and trailer im driving off the guy im working for.....do you all know of anybody who will insure a dump with no problems? cuz he has sentry and they #####ed about it

Progressive insured me without too much hassle,but that was with 5 years cdl experience,and i only had the trailer covered for $10,000 ,and just a 200 mile radius,but they did go down when i went to the hopper cosiderably,and i increased the milage to the full 500 mile radius.

Can't help you much here bullhaulerswife,most of my account's are with small feed mills that store their ingredients in those 30 ton upright gravity bins,so they normally just call me when they are almost empty,and so i don't usually have a lot of wait-time at the receiver end,but i do run into that problem with shipper's of the ddg's from the local distillary's when i deal with the brokers. Around my neck of the woods,i would say it is more of a ''broker'' thing,than a shipper or receiver thing.They just are scared of losing the accounts,so they are constantly trying to stay 1 or 2 loads ahead. If i can deal with the shipper(distillary) one-on-one,they always have the product ready when i get there(unless they break down
) but like i said,i stay pretty much local,so i'm probably not going to be much help.

yeah i know progressive will write me all day long but idk what their policy was on dumps.....but thanks for letting me know

I was with Progressive for 3 yrs and they were good till I added the second truck. And the rates went out of the roof no claims or accidents and no tickets . The only thing about Progressive is I was on a 100 mile radius and if you operate out of that radius then you have to up your radius of opration which will increase your rate , Also if you have to provide a additonal insured to the policy then it is like $25.00 for each one you add . I have them on just in case they have the chain law in affect and I have to cross that little hill west of Limon. I don't do the mountains in the winter and I usually don't do them the rest of the year because the rates suck, it will have to pay pretty #### good to go over the mountain and burn that extra fuel and put them chains on if need be.
When I first started driving I pulled a hopper for a guy out of Sterling, CO and hauled corn over the pass to Fruita, CO and salt back out of Moab, UT to Greeley, CO and it sucked in the winter time, it took me seven hours from Denver to Fruita grossing 80k. I was driving a 85' shaker hood with a 315 Cummins and a 9 spd. Thank God for 550 Cats and 18spd even though fuel mileage sucks.HwyPilot Thanks this. -
Nothing new, they were doing this crap twenty years ago and back then we didn't get a dime for sitting. I sit for that amount of time in a cabover with no television, no fridge, no cell phone, no computer, hang out with the other drivers until they had enough room for a load of midds, etc.... then dump and go get another one. Didn't have to worry about someone cutting in front of you, other drivers would wake you if it was your turn, usually someone at the mill (depending where you were) would loan you a set of wheels to go and eat. It was just different times back then and we though they were good times. And just about everyone spoke English.
