Welcome to hopper thread. You're right the rates are low after harvest. Should be able to stay busy but whether it will pay good is another matter. Best thing to do is save some money, if possible, during harvests so you can survive the winter.
Here we are paid by the bu based on mileage. Hourly would be nice but rarely happens.

Nope, didn't do much this week. Next week should be better temps in 50's and 60's. Snowed in basically all week except Monday. Have beans to haul next week.
-
Where are you hauling your beans to?

Bullhaulerswife, I bet your husband was glad he was going the opposite direction of the parking lot.
bullhaulerswife Thanks this. -
Luckily just to Hutch. Last time I heard the bean line in Wichita was long but who knows now.Big John Thanks this.

The elevators I haul for pay by the bushel, with the rate based on mileage. I have heard of one of the giant farming operations paying hourly during harvest to keep their trucks happy. So far this winter has been lousy for me, and I'm not very optimistic about it getting better in the near future. The corn yield in our area was down, and there just isn't enough of it to haul. In fact I'll probably have a nice hopper for sale come spring.BigBadBill and wheathauler Thank this.

Oh yeah, he was.

Sold the big large car Pete today so I am truck less. I haven't paid for the KW just yet and I found this truck below, 2003 Pete 379 short hood, 750k on a 6NZ Cat, 10spd. Factory dry stamped weight is 16,700. Can't decide KW or Pete. I am a big Red Oval fan.

Tough decision. The pete would work for what you have in mind.

The Pete has tall rubber and the KW has 22.5's. My trailer I bought has tall rubber also. The Pete is also $10,000 grand more.
