Timpte Trailers. Has anyone replaced the gears or parts for the single speed openers? Also is Timpte the only place to get these parts?
I just bought two new brackets since mine were really bent up and the shaft and gears are not aligned very good. Trying to get everything rebuilt so it is smooth opening and closing. Already have replaced all 48 bearings.

Hmmmmm. Try to help me understand better what parts are out of alignment, John. Is the shaft not lining up square with the door?

Well the aluminum bracket that comes off the hopper tub has been hit by something by previous owner. I have bought two new brackets to replace the bent ones because everything is not straight. I was just wondering about replacing the gears, bearing etc.... and if you have bought them at other places other then Timpte. The shaft itself is not bent.

I know McNay rents or leases hoppers: http://mcnaytruck.com/ It doesn't mention anything about it on their website, but I see several around here that have green lettering on the sides, RM Leasing, I think. I think I've seen an ad for them in the back of truckpaper too. I have no idea on prices.

In my neck of the woods right now, there is a greater supply of grain trucks than there is demand for them, thus rates have tanked lately.

I would go ahead and replace the bearings while you're in that far, but the shaft should be good to reuse. I'm not aware of anyone other than Timpte that would carry those parts, but then again I've never really looked elsewhere.

When you go back together with it, Timpte reccommends putting a 3/64" drill bit or something equivelant between the rack gear teeth and pinion gear tooth to set the clearance between the two. That should make for a smoother turning shaft.

If you can't get things lined up and running smooth after replacing the brackets and bearings and setting the clearance on the gears, then I'd have to say your door frame may have been knocked off square when whatever bent the brackets hit them, and the door is binding.

    Good luck...

I love my Tarp Savers. A friend of mine the other day had just got back from Shurco getting a new tarp and just about lost it in the wind on his first load, I didn't have a bit of trouble.

Cheap fix is to tie a rope around the middle of the whole trailer. Tarp won't get away. Just leave enough slack to roll the tarp over the mounds if they load you heavy.
