By the way, I've been enjoying your thread for some time now, and I suppose I should introduce myself.
Don't let the reefer in my avatar fool you. That was another life, but I keep the pic because it my Grandfather and me in front of my truck.
Now hauling hay mostly, and running hoppers and pnumatics for friends when they need a relief driver.
Thank you for an enjoyable and informational thread!
As always, the LastKidPicked -
LKP, what part of CO you from? I grew up in Julesburg.
-
I'm in Firestone, a little bitty town about 20 minutes north of Denver.
If you are on I-25 exit 240, look to the east and the second red barn east of the interstate is my barn.
I go through Julesburg quite a bit on my way to Big Mac. You were what, an hour from the lake? -
-
You could have walked to it a few years ago, but the lake is really up now. Last summer they were releasing quite a bit of water into Lake Ogalalla and Big Mac was still way up.

Welcome aboard Lastkidpicked and glad your pulling a hopper. Their are some cool hoppers running around Colorado, Tri-State, Keeter, etc... I moved to Denver in December of 1987 and stayed until the summer of 1990. I pumped fuel at the old Union 76 Truck Stop in Wheatridge when I first came to town and then pulled a hopper for Allen Mitcheck out of Sterling for awhile before I moved back, I guess they are still around. I use to haul corn over the pass to Grand Junction and then over to Moab, UT for salt back. Colorado is beautiful I just wished I could have seen into the future and bought a lot of land back in the late eighties before everything went threw the roof.
What do you haul?bullhaulerswife Thanks this. -
Hey LKP, don't forget to check www.dieselboss.com for prices along your route. Once you get to the main site, look in the top header for the "diesel fuel prices" and click on it. Then you can pick the report type you want. Be safe!

Hucks at Heyworth, IL (junction of US 136 and US 51) was $3.859 as of last Saturday, 2 semi stalls with dual pumps, free coffee or fountain drink for purchases over 50 gallons.
Darr's Pit Stop at Medora, IL (IL 267 south of Greenfield IL halfway between Jacksonville and Alton) was $3.899 this past Tuesday, one pump, 2 nozzles, a little slow, small lot, no freebies.
$4.299 at my hometown right now.............leads to careful trip planning

I opened up an account today with the local Coop/Ampride. This one owns four small town elevators that I haul out of on a regular basis plus a good size Ampride fuel stop that is known for having the cheapest priced fuel around. They will send be a bill each month and if I pay it by the 15th of each month I get 2% back. It doesn't sound like much but it will add up over the year. I have always paid cash for my fuel but the only way to get a discount is to set up a charge account.
