Hauled some wheat today...I believe I'm on the second tier of trucks that are hauling for Cargill. The first tier gets the better loads...the rest of us get the ### loads.
Guess need to be nicer to grain merchant but he's a jerk. Never had any trouble with them before. Is one who wants to nickel and dime you to death on rates. Seems like they only stay around a year. -
Sorry about whining on last post. Hadn't had anything to eat and was tired. On this wheat run have 200,000 bushels of wheat to haul. With the amount of trucks on it should be done in less than 2 weeks.
Today I saw some trucks that used to pull vans with hoppers now. Surely hoppers don't pay better than vans. I was talking to a O\O today pulling a hopper who used to pull a flat. He said Maverick and other big boys cut the rates on flat so he is back on a hopper. -
I have done the flats and stepdecks for years and yes the rates are in the toilet. Vans have always been cheap unless you have some special haul that nobody else has heard of. The people I have talked to are saying the only gig going on rite now is hoppers. I guess that is why you are seeing alot of trucks pulling hoppers.
My hopper deal has went south and maybe it is a blessing that it did. The guy didn't want to buy another trailer and add another truck at this time, he just wants to keep his guys busy and see what happens, I can't blame a the man for looking out for his guys. He has leased on a bunch of new guys in the last 2 or 3 months, mostly guys that have left the oilfields and bought trucks so it maybe best that it didn't work out. Most of those guys don't have a clue what their making or how to run a buisness and they will get out of it within a year. Talked to a grain hauler friend the other day and asked him what he was making per mile and he didn't have a clue, he said as long as my check is good that is all I care about. LOL what kind of statement is that.
I am going to go and pull a dump and hope I stay busy and pay my bills and wait out this storm called "Economy" -
