Don't know what the temp was today but it was scorching here too. Did a couple loads of DDG's today and man they did not want to come out very easy.
Oh here's my new ride too.

Started hauling wheat today. Windy out darn near took my electric tarp, which is hard to do. I"d say we had gusts easily 40 mph. Would still be hauling but flex pipe was rusting through and needed new piece. Get it fixed tomorrow , too dang hot for me to work on it. It was getting pretty noisy and was getting headache.
Big John Thanks this. -
outerspacehillbilly Thanks this.

Thought today was it. Had a kid driving a empty custom harvesters truck just about loose it on a two lane road and about hit me head on. He let his right steer get off the road and he tried to correct it and he did but then came over in front of me and then back over in his lane. I hope he had to go and change his britches. You got to drive safe then you have to watch out to see if everyone around you is going to drive safe.
Been busy and just got home, all the small elevators are filling up fast and the trucks can't keep up. It is a better harvest then they thought it was going to be. I have hauled out of four different elevators today, playing musical elevators I guess. They have one elevator that is small and he is completely full so they have a bunch of us going to be their at 6:30am to get some wheat out of his bins so he can take some farm trucks tomorrow.
Shower and to bed, see ya. -
Yep, once I get the flex pipe fixed off to musical elevators too. They really haven't started cutting here just to the south of us. When we start it will really be wild. There wasn't any trucks in line yet but that will change with time. There's always some bad drivers out at harvest.

I haven't hauled wheat yet. What kind of rates do you see and is it worth it to drop my van, grab and hopper and follow the harvest? We don't see a lot of wheat out of IL so until I read these posts I wasn't thinking about it.
-
Anyone selling a hopper. Getting ready to pull the trigger and would rather give money to a driver than a dealer.
-
Rates are anywhere from 1.70 to over $2.00 or better for all miles. The elevators are open longer so you can get more loads in a day. Some hopper guys follow the harvest from Texas to the Dakotas.
I just quit for the night the heat was pretty bad today along with the ever present wind. -
Did 3 more loads of them today. Gotta do a short load or 2 in the morning then head out to Des Moines to Cargill.
-
That extra supply of trucks keeps the rates suppressed for the guys that try to make a living doing it year around. Guess it'll always be like that, but I still think it sucks.
