I haven't hauled grain to Decatur since, I think, 2002. At that time, ADM couldn't care less how long it took to dump, sounds like nothing has changed. Hauled some out of the field into Staley (I think its Tate & Lyle now) and one of their 2 pits didn't weigh the truck like most places, it weighed the grain after you dumped it. But of course you had to wait for the grain from the previous truck to completely empty out. :biggrin_25513::biggrin_2555: I think they were using that setup back when George Halas still worked there.:biggrin_25523:

I never understood that area either. I couldn't deal with the stress of putting up with that on a continuous basis.

This is typical for Tyson. Many times, when picking up in SW City MO our batch couldn't be made until they had loaded out the previous batch in the bins, because of protein ratio. It was nothing for us to sit there for 24hrs. AND its not a pleasant wait, because of the stench. :biggrin_25526:

The 3 trucks in front of me all loaded different items. Once they started loading us all 4 of us were loaded in less than 2 hours. :biggrin_25510: When I finally got up to load I asked the girl loading what the problem was did the system go down or something and she didn't have a clue what the holdup had been but she was right there the whole time.

When I used to load poultry meal at Pilgrims, I'd always keep some of those big, fat, green cigars to fire up while I was in there loading. That made it somewhat tolerable. But, still - unless you put all of your clothes in two or three layers of airtight plastic wrap, you'd have to wash all of your clean clothes when you left there just to get the stink out.

I guess all of those places that make meals out of animal proteins are nasty. Some of them really pump out a lot of particulate matter. I was waiting for them to finish cooking some MBM at IBP at Amarillo one time and got tired of sitting in the truck. I got out to wander around and it started drizzling rain. I had on a light-colored shirt and by the time I got back to the truck, I looked like some kind of necrophiliac serial killer - it looked like blood splatter all over me.

You know its bad, when your sitting next to dumps with carcasses in them and you'd rather smell that, vs walking in the plant to use the restroom. First time I walked in there, I started gagging, and turned around on my heels and walked out. I could NOT work there. I can only imagine how bad those people actually smell, when they go home to their families.

Only other place that smelled that bad, was an egg processing plant in northern NE. They "recycle" rotten eggs. OMG, couldn't wait to get the heck out of there. :biggrin_2551:

Well I am done with that nightmare known as ADM. And the guy keeps calling me to see if will be available. Told him I was getting $.07/bu more for 20 less miles and going into an elevator that will see 50 trucks all day long. If I show up and two trucks are in front of me I hit rush hour.

Picture of the fun from Friday morning.
