Rebuilding hopper doors, any suggestions. Has anyone done this and how was the outcome. I replaced all roller bearings in mine a couple months back and already have had four coming apart. I grease the zirts every weekend and when I go to open or close them it seems they will open okay then hit a ruff spot then smooth then hit another ruff spot. I talked to the service man at Sanders Timpte in Wichita (very nice guy and very helpful) he said the bearings were good for about a year and then they need to be replaced but wasn't for sure why they only lasted two months. He said if the bottom side of my hoppers had waving looking steel where the gear goes back and forth then they needed to be rebuilt. I was just curious if this will take care of my problem. He said in 2008 they went to a bigger bearing that lasted longer but they won't work with my 2003 trailer.

I had my back hopper door rebuilt. It has helped it quite a bit. Had it done at Sanders. It was like yours, was fine then really hard to turn.
Big John Thanks this. -
I can't remember the guys name at Sander's I talked to (maybe Highside knows him) he told me about $400 labor plus parts to do both hoppers.

Tony! Helluva nice guy!
Sounds like your door might be warped. First thing I would do is pull the doors and check the edges with a straight edge, or a levelBig John Thanks this. -

Don't know if you can edit it after 24 hrs. Mod might be able to do it for you.

Well, i came home today to take a long weekend and to change oil in the truck. Sure enough as soon as im done servicing the truck, one of my shippers calls and asks if im interested in a super hot load of fertilizer going 360 miles to Ia. I said im not interested, im taking off for the weekend, he says you might be if i tell you the rate. I said ok , shoot. He said $75.00 per ton. I about fell over,
and said for that ill pick up and deliver tommorow, no problem.

Thanks I will do that. I have talked to the parts guy and the service guy and both have been very helpful and know their stuff. One of these days I might get the chance to deal with the salesman. If I have them rebuilt I will sure be going to Sanders, maybe you will be in the neighborhood that day and buy my lunch.
highside Thanks this. -
I do steel loads like that all the time. No matter how bad you want to take the time off, just by doing loads like that some places will put you on a list and call you when they need stuff moved. I like my free time but I like $6.00 per running mile also.
